  • Models of SWB 4wd?

I am looking at getting a new car, but I know almost nothing about car models. I want a 2 door 4wd along the lines of a jeep wrangler, with a soft top. Age of model doesn't matter. What similar cars are there? I know Dihatsu made one that was similar, and so did suzuki, but can't find the model names.

    Thanks

  • Kitten playing too rough?

We recently got a kitten when he was 6 weeks old. I realise this is too young, but she was sending them to the pound, so couldn't wait for him to be older. We also got another kitten, who is 9 weeks old. We settled them both in the house before they met, and introduced them slowly. They seemed fine with each other. However, when we allow them to play, the younger one plays very rough and the older one doesn't like it. She growls at him and hisses if he gets too close, and hides. We tried separating them again, and they are fine, it is just when he jumps on her. I have heard that because he was so young he didn't learn proper manners, and that she might teach him to not be so rough. But I don't know. Should we separate them again? Or let them sort it out? We can't keep them apart forever, and we got a second kitten hoping it would teach him not to scratch us.

  • Should I upgrade my macbook or replace the hardware?

I bought my macbook at the beginning of uni about 4 years ago. It is now 1 year out of its apple care. It is the all white plastic one, and I've had to have to case replaced a couple of times over the past few years, because they all have a manufacturing fault. My battery was replaced a couple of months ago, and now my trackpad has stopped working. Again. I've already had it replaced once, but that was a couple of years ago. I had to switch it to touch rather than click, which still works but has some limitations. Basically, I have a machine which is four years old, with the hardware slowly failing, and no warranty. However it still works, and I don't like replacing things unless I have to. So I guess the question is, do I finally cave and get a new macbook? Or do I take my current one into apple and get the trackpad replaced and hope nothing else fails. I know getting the trackpad replaced is cheaper, but in the long run, if I'm patching things up every six months, its going to add up.

BTW please don't tell me to go for a PC. I don't like windows 8, and yes I've tried it. My mother bought one, and one of the first things I had to do after she set it up was dig a virus out of its antivirus software. I like my macbook and how it works, if I am going to get a new computer it will be a mac.

  • How does mitochondrial DNA change?

It's been a few years since I took Cell biology. I know how most of it works and have a biology degree so if answer is technical that's ok. I can't remember how Mitochondrial DNA works. I know that mitochondria have their own DNA which is responsible for the synthesis and regulations of the proteins etc. necessary for cellular respiration. I also know that mitochondrial DNA is passed down maternally, which means it is used to identify maternal lines. However this would seem to indicate that mtDNA has variation between people from different maternal lines, however any variations would likely cause the Mitochondria to perform inefficiently or not at all of it caused a protein to code wrong.

So I guess my question is how conserved is mitochondrial DNA? Does it have a lot of junk regions where these variations can occur harmlessly? (I wouldn't think so but may be wrong). How much variation is there between maternal lines and between different people not from the same family? And how much difference is there between the mtDNA of humans and other animals (assuming endosymbiosis, I would assume not much or it would lose functionality).

    Thank you

  • Need help with gemstone compatibility?

I am looking to get some jewellery with gem stones for various reasons. I've looked at the properties a quite a few and picked the ones I like. However I'm not sure if they're compatible. There are so many aspects and they all seem to conflict on some level. I am looking at obsidian, malachite, tiger's eye and moonstone. Are these compatible? If so which ones? Will they still work it they aren't? And can I wear more than one at a time?

I am aware that for a lot of people this may seem like a stupid question. There is no need to point it out. Thank you

  • Question about space time relativity and earth movements?

Ok, so my brother has explained to me (probably very badly) the idea that the faster something is moving, the less time passes. So travelling at light speed, less time will pass than travelling slower. The idea that if you have two identical clocks and send one off at very high speeds for a while, eventually the clock travelling faster will show an time slower than the stationary clock. Is this right?

Also, what effect would this have on earth and other planets? So say there is a planet which revolves around its sun at a much faster rate. If you put an ordinary earth clock (I'm not talking physical day length) on that planet, would it run slower than its twin on the earth? Or would the gravity of the planet cancel out the effects of the planets speed?

    Thanks

  • How to compare variables with different units?

I have used some data which is in different units on the same graph. I've log transformed it so that they compare easily. I'm trying to compare rainfall and abundance. Obviously rainfall is in mm per year and abundance is in individuals per square kilometre. What label would I use on the graph now that it's been log transformed.

  • wii controller pro u not working?

I was trying to play Zelda: ocarina of time on the wii, and I asked in a game shop which controller I needed cause I know it doesn't work with the normal one, and they gave a gimneric controller pro, which is compatible with both wii and wii u. It is supposed to be a combo between the stick and the classic controller. Anyway, I got it home and it won't turn on. I'm leaving it on to charge now, but it won't turn on when its not plugged in. And it will only turn on once when it is connected. I'm hoping a few hours charging will help this. But when it does turn on, it won't sync with the wii. Tried holding down the sync on both controller and console whilst on the menu screen and it won't work. I'm thinking about taking it back tomorrow. But if anyone has any solutions that would be great.

Also, if I do take it back, is it worth getting another one? Will this controller even work with the game? Or should I get something else. I still have my N64 and love playing zelda, but the save doesn't work anymore, and I was hoping I could use a wireless controller for it, so I can play in the big room. Are there any wireless controllers that work with this game? I know the gamecube controller is supposed to be compatible, but it's not wireless

    Thank you

  • Adding/Removing titles in R?

Trying to make a graph in R. When I created the graph I used

    plot(x,y, type="n")

Now the graph has the titles on the axis as x and y. When I try and add a new title using

    title(xlab="")

it puts the title over the top of the existing one. When I try and remove it using NULL, nothing happens. How do I get rid of the old title?

  • What is killing the possums?

We've been finding possum tails around for a few years now. But not really sure what's been doing it. This morning we found a possum outside our door, with its head missing. Prime suspect seems to be our cat, but it seems a bit extreme for him to have chewed this possums head off. But I don't know why else it would be on our door step. Anyone have any other ideas about what could be doing this?

  • kobo or sony ereader?

I did some extensive research last year, and ended up buying a sony prs-350 which I absolutely love. But, last week the screen stopped working and sony wants a ridiculous amount of money to fix it. So now I have to get a new one. It seems that now there are a few more options available in Australia. Last year, when I was looking, the kobo wasn't very good, but now seems to have updated their model. Sony also has new readers out. I'm not interested in Kindle at all, because I don't like that they lock you into their format, and already have a lot of epubs.

I'm finding it difficult to find relevant reviews, because in the last year, everything seems to have become more complicated. I don't care about wifi, I don't need to update my social sites about what I'm reading. I use an independent site for buying ebooks, which is cheaper than kobo, sony or amazon. I am looking for an ereader that lets me read. And thats about it. I use an ereader almost exactly how I use a book. I pick it up and I read it. When I'm finished, I pick up another book. I'm looking for the best ereader that will let me do this.

There have been some reports saying the kobo is slow, and others saying that the sony freezes. I would really like some opinions on these two, as they are the only practical options in australia. I liked being able to sort my books into folders on my sony, but the lack of support and the huge price difference has me leaning more towards the kobo.

And while some may say, just read normal books, I travel a lot on a budget, which means space and weight exist at a premium. So while I'd love to have a suitcase full of books, its not possible, and an ereader becomes necessary, especially on a 14 hr flight.

  • The screen on my sony reader is not working?

I have a PRS350 pocket edition sony reader. I just finished reading a book and I went back to the home screen and half my screen went grey. This happens occasionally, but it usually fixes itself right away. It has now been stuck like this for a while. I've tried resetting, but not sure if it actually worked, and have restarted it a few times, but half the screen is still grey.

Does anyone have any idea about how to fix it?

  • Does language still have meaning without society?

I don't think it does. I think you can still use language. For example, you can still look outside and say to yourself the sky is blue. But it doesn't mean anything, because you know the sky is blue, without actually needing to say blue, because you can experience the sensation, which, as Plato would have it, is closer to the colour than the word. So language becomes meaningless unless you are trying to communicate with other people. (I'm ignoring diary writing, this is a form of remembering, which is like communicating with past and present self but still requires two participants).

  • What are the natural predators of Australian native mammals?

Apart from the dingo, what predators are there for possums and kangaroos in Australia? I have been thinking lately about the fact that Australia has no large carnivores, and couldn't help but wonder what population controls there are for native species. What native predators are there? I know that foxes, dingoes, feral cats etc. are potential predators, but these aren't native (dingoes debatable). The only one I've come up with so far is the Tassie Tiger. But that is now extinct.

  • Spending money in Australia?

Hi, I'm taking a tour across Australia from Melbourne to Darwin and I was wondering how much money to take with me for spending money. I'm going to spend three days in Melbourne, join my tour which takes 18 days and then two days in Darwin. About half the meals are provided on the tour, and all the accommodation is paid for, for the whole trip, so I just need a rough estimate for food and souvenirs, and possibly some things to do in Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin.

    Thanks

  • Can exercise/heat trigger an allergic reaction to Antibiotics?

I went ice skating last night, and broke out in really bad hives. They only lasted about 30mins and went away when I started to cool down. This has only happened once before in Paris, and there are no food, clothing or environmental factors which could have triggered the allergic reaction. I have also been ice skating and done physical activity in the past so its not heat/exercise related alone. The only thing that I can think of as being the same is that I was taking amoxcillin. But I've taken it before without any problems. So I was wondering if its possible for the exercise/heat to have triggered a reaction to the amoxcillin. I can't think of any other reason for it.

  • Help with tech specs and Waterproof cameras?

I'm looking for a camera that is waterproof/shockproof/dustproof and I'm trying to find one with decent zoom. Which is turning into quite a challenge. I found the pentax which has 5x optical which is the highest I've found so far. But it also says this: 6.7X Combined zoom: 33.5X Intelligent zoom. I've heard that intelligent zoom works almost as well as optical, without much image degradation. Is that what this means? 33.5X zoom without image destruction? It seems hard to believe.

I'm not a professional so I'm not really up with all the tech specs. I'm mainly interested in landscape scenery, but I want some decent zoom to get good pics of animals which you usually can't get close too. So any recommendations would be great. And I do a lot of travelling to some not so hospitable places, so the shock/dust/water proof is a must.

  • Exercising with doms?

I started an exercise program last week, doing some moderate cardio for an hour. My last session was on thursday, and on sunday my muscles started to get sore. I was told this was normal so I'm not worried. But I'm supposed to do another session tomorrow, and I want to know if its ok, if my muscles are still sore. I wasn't to concerned, but then did some reading and a lot of people say you should rest. But they seem to be talking about weight training. Is it ok to go to my session tomorrow if I'm just doing cardio?

    Thanks
