What is the possible cause of vertigo upon waking?

After getting up this morning and walking to the bathroom my head began to spin and I felt like vomiting. I think it was vertigo but have never experienced this before.

Getting up suddenly from your bed causes some disturbance in the inner ear. When you want to get out of bed, do it gradually. first raise yourself up right until you are sitting on the edge of the bed. Next, turn your body with your feet flat on the ground, and then raise yourself slowly.

Inner ear troubles or possibly low blood pressure, which isn't uncommon when resting.
