It depends on what you mean by successful poet. You are a success here among your friends.

Now if you would only stop inserting those apostrophes (') before the letter "s." LOL

If you're interested in becoming better then reading to expand your vocabulary is inevitable, however you could also join an online community of poets like poemhunter.com of which I am a member. In that way you can receive constructive feedback from others on the best way to improve individual poems. And it's always nice to be able to type in a name of one of your own poems and have it come up on Google because it's on the internet.

This is a very good poem below. Continue to be who you are,

but screw the naysayers. Concentrate on all who love you for

who you are. Can you improve? Yes. How? Let me ask you?

After you write a poem, do you edit it, look at it again, sharpen

it as if it is a dull blade. My advice, take or leave, is, if you do

this, to stop, look and listen, and give your poem another day

before you release it, and look at it the next day, and ask yourself,

"Can I make this better?" It may be just fine but you found one

misspelled word. Well, correct it. You are a smart woman, very

smart. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes and have our

    "issues" to deal with.

Do you have a title for this?

    minor edit

I say that the best poems are the ones that manage to capture a story, or emotion, and format them. The better you became at that the better your poems will be. Growing your vocabulary can help, but you don't have to read to do that. You can use daily vocab word programs, or using a thesaurus. Like other have said the main point is to just keep writing. And to not focus on becoming well known or admired, so much as enjoying writing and using it as an outlet. One of the easiest ways to fail is to focus only on succeeding.

This IS a poem Caz, an 11 line free verse, the last three were your question. You could have someone, or ask the group here to do your edit work (not change the poem), edit to correct any spelling or punctuation errors. Dan is right, Poemhunter.com is a great arena to read the work of thousands of writers so you can see different styles and get ideas and inspiration and community. I post there and love it.

You really need to watch Samantha Pearson's video at http://www.restoremyvisiontoday.info/ It tells you how you can 100% naturally and safely cure almost any visual problem and the real truth about the Eyecare industry...thing is.. your glasses and contact lenses are in fact making your eyes worse.

At first I didn't believe it but right now I don't need glasses anymore. I feel like something magic has happened to me, crazy!

All alone again and it's half past midnight,

pondering over Poetry Books in dim light

yet I go on and on like a river winding

to nowhere, trying to find a binding!

    Struggling throughout the night

    with half-closed eyes, I bite ...

inside this network of words that rhyme

all meanings are lost and riddled in time

and there is no escape ...

for I'm trapped in its cape!

    It's a passion, my fashion!

but still, my poetry feeds like a ration!

I don't know why you're asking it here. The good poets have left and the ones who think they are good will tread water forever because they're too stupid to understand that they should drown. These churls have to pay to get their rubbish in print. Talk about needy!

Caz, you are a poetess. We who know you have seen evidence of that. I suspect even in the UK this site offers spell check, not that it is a critical issue, and success is interpretive. Yes write, as Paz said, but more than just spelling and perfect grammar, emotion matters, what is conveyed to a reader that draws them in to something they might completely relate to. Try to save all you write, even scraps of thoughts, to go back to at some time.
