Am I the only one annoyed by this?

Ok, yes, it's very stupid but the ICE entertainment was always a HUGE plus for me but on certain routes they've taken this away on Emirates flights. It's not on demand anymore, not on the flights I was on in June (one from CPT-DXB, and DXB-VCE), they only had a certain amount of channels and it works like a TV, every movie by the hour, not on demand. Has any other routes changed this? Everyone on Airlinequality.com still raves about their entertainment? Very confusing?

Update:

well, it's a shame because it never use to be like this, the flight from Cape Town is nine hours long! very frustrating.

Emirates currently has the ICE system on about 90% of its fleet. They still have a few aircraft waiting to have the system installed. To do this they must take the aircraft offline for about two weeks, which is why they do it at the same time as they do the C check (the big maintenance check). This means that they still have a small number of planes with the old system.

All their A380's and newer B777's have the ICE system installed There are still a few A330's that are waiting for the upgrade, but it is underway.

You can check on www.emirates.com what onboard facilities will be available on your flight. That said, on occasion they may have to send a replacement aircraft if the scheduled aircraft for any reason is unavailable. In these rare cases it may not be possible to provide an aircraft with the ICE system.
