Why do we celebrate the Puritans, who tortured and killed for nothing?

If you are a Christian which I doubt you are casting a bad view over us and this is for what those that you have judged to have done?

Please leave the past in the past and you push forward to now because we cannot change the past but we can all come in line with the word of God.

I think Thanksgiving has a completely different meaning to most people now. Many people have no idea of the origin of Thanksgiving, they just assume it's a day of giving thanks for family/friends/benefits in life, etc. So, they're really not celebrating the Puritans at all. It's just another time to get together with extended family and bond, so I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

What does it say to people who lump all people into one category, you just branded and whipped all Puritans.

Leaders who want to rule rather than serve as Jesus said go against the Word just like politicians who want to control and rule the people instead of following the Constitution and be a servant of the people.

Only a small percentage of Puritans participated in those things, and they were condemned by the majority. The witch-hunt movement never spread outside of Salem.

I usually dress as a Puritan for Halloween. The more educated the people are who answer the door, the more terrified they are by my costume.

DO we celebrate them? I think it's important to study them, to learn what lead to that kind of group behavior, so it doesn't happen again. They were basically the Christian version of the Taliban. I think it's important to learn about them, so they don't happened again.

I don't think that's celebrating them--I think it's learning from history. As for Thanksgiving, I don't really celebrate it, so I can't really comment on it

Really, all Christians are like that, not just Puritans.

You are mistaken. They did not come here for freedom of all religion. They came for freedom to practice their religion. As in, they were being persecuted in their own countries, so they went overseas. They wanted a nation dedicated to God, not a nation dedicated to whatever gods you happen to believe in.

Thankfully they believed in the one true God of the Bible. So its not all a loss. We should be Thankful to our God for protecting and watching over our country, and protecting us all these years.
