Ahmad Brooks is fined $16,000 by the NFL. Exactly what for?

Update:

@Saint: Lewis said he would pay half of the fine. Let's see if he does.

Update 2:

@No: I don't understand the rules in the NFL anymore, either. I have no idea what a catch is anymore...funny, you never heard of the term "football move" years ago. Today's game is a pale (and inferior) product compared to the game I grew up watching.

Im not a fan of either team, but I will say Im shocked there is a fine. Honestly, I could see why the penalty flag was thrown. I would imagine being a referee watching it live and full speed, It most of looked awful, and would be difficult to determine whether the hit was to the chest or neck. The way his neck snapped, you would probably assume that he got clotheslined. We have the luxury of watching it in super slo-mo, but the refs dont. And the penalty isn't reviewable. However, to have the league look at it and still determine that not only is this a penalty, but is so gross that it warrants such a large fine....I find this difficult to comprehend. But it is what the NFL has turned into. I have said this many times...I think I understood the rules of the NFL better when I was 16 years old more than I do at 40. Was it a catch, did he make a "football move", did he horse collar him, was it an unfair hit on a helpless receiver, blah, blah, blah.

For almost all his life, Drew Brees had to prove wrong those who thought he was too short. In 1997, Purdue University took a chance on the very short 18-year-old Brees, after leading Westlake High School to a 16-0 record, and the state Championship as a high school senior during the 1996 season, in which Brees was named the Texas High School 5A Most Valuable Offensive Player.

As it turns out, Brees had a very successful college football career as a quarterback at Purdue. Brees was named the Academic All-American Player of the Year, and a 2-time Heisman Trophy finalist.

Although Brees was a very successful quarterback, he dropped to the 2nd round because of his short height. However, it did not stop Brees from becoming one of most elite quarterbacks in NFL history.

During his NFL career, Brees led the San Diego Chargers to one division title, and the New Orleans Saints to 3 division titles, two NFC Championship Game appearances, and the Super Bowl XLIV Championship. Brees was named the Super Bowl XLIV MVP. In addition, Brees holds the record for most passing yards in a season and most consecutive games with at least one passing touchdown, as well as a 2-time Offensive Player of the Year and is the only quarterback with three 5000-yard passing seasons.

Source(s): Finally, Brees is on the verge of becoming the youngest quarterback in NFL history to reach 50,000 career passing yards.

    Exactly what for?---EXACTLY!!

The hit on Brees- (and I'm a Saints fan) wasn't "illegal"-

He clearly hit him across the chest, the flag was un-warranted

I'm almost embarrassed to say we won---because of that call.

The fine is more unjust than the call was, just ask Ray Lewis. lol
