Depends what you mean by "building your body". If you want to become a "bodybuilder", as in the very muscular folks you see competing in Mr. Olympia or similar competitions, then you need weights.
But, if you just want to get stronger and fitter, you don't need any equipment at all.
And there are a very wide variety of ways to do it.
For your cardiovascular system and general health, you do aerobic exercise. Run, cycle, swim, calisthenics... Whatever.
For general strength... A very wide variety of standard body-weight exercises. Pushups and crunches and squats and chin-ups and all those sorts of things... There are dozens.
As well, you can improve all that with very simple home-made equipment.
