Two-headed question about British announcers on U.S. American radio, esp. NPR...?

Not including BBC broadcasts, have you noticed a lot of British-English speakers are hired by American radio stations? Do you think it gives the stations an air of distinction?

Do British radio stations often hire American-English speakers to talk on their radio waves or is it limited to bits of comedy or what? Would the Britons and their neighbors enjoy hearing different American accents? If so, would it give their stations an air of....(fill in blank)....?

I think the British accents on American radio sound posh, pretentious, or cool, depending on who's speaking. It seems to be NPR and classical music stations that put the Queen's subjects on to add an air of "sophistication." I don't know if they'd even allow Americans to announce on British radio, and based on the tone of the other answer, I doubt they'd put one on to sound ''distinguished"!

You can't beat quality......and there's no better way to imply quality than have the English language spoken as it should
