What percentage of your tax dollar is going towards supplementing the living expenses of employees?

This question is directed towards the fact that McDonnald's and Wall-Mart as well as other multi-billion dollar corporations have their wages so low that full-time employees still need food stamps.

Within this there is a message to the 'conservative' that says raising the min. wage will create a shared cost burden...

This just goes to show one of the many problems intrinsic to capitalism. It isn't a real economic solution for most citizens of the world.

That figure is in the state of flux but the last I read was Walmart's paltry wages cost taxpayers $2.66B a yr. in gov assistance. That's just Walmart.

Supporting these unlivable wages while complaining about America the welfare state is conflicting. Especially when looking the other way while corporate welfare saves the wealthy billions more every yr.

The minimum wage should fall into a range based on corporate profits to prevent the greed f/ becoming a burden on the rest of us.

Taxpayer really are subsiding Wal-Mart and Mickey D's through food stamps and other things. The 4 Walmart heirs hold more well than the 40% of the rest of the population. They could easily pay their employees a living wage, and still make money for themselves and their shareholders.

McDonald's has set up a helpline for its employees called McResources.

The helpline assists employees in getting government subsidies for heating bills, groceries, and medical expenses (among other things).

Does this strike anyone else as backwards? McDonald's is essentially subsidizing its profits by pushing its workers into social programs.

Moreover, McDonald's is advertising this option as a "resource" for its employees... like it's some kind of employer benefit.

    http://money.cnn.com/2013/10/23/news/companies/mcd...

McDonald's is basically admitting that its workers can't live on minimum wage, and despite being a profitable company it expects the government to pay the difference.

    I say just enough is.

If they don't like what they're paid, no one is forcing them to work there. Maybe they should quit and give the job to the millions of others who are unemployed. You know--those people that Obama's ignored for 5 years now.

If it wasn't for places like McDonalds or Walmart, wouldn't us taxpayers be subsidizing these people 100%? Would you rather do that?

I should add that the McResource line is a colossal waste of money on McDonalds' part. When I worked there 2 years ago, the franchise owners tried to push it on all of us as a "benefit" and apparently, it costs like $2000 for each employee. If they got rid of the McResource line, they could pay the workers that money at least.

This is what happens when you outsource the decent paying jobs and force college grads to work for pennies and force high school kids to get a 6 figure education for a minimum wage job. This country is doomed.

Here in California legislation has tinkered with the thought of back charging employers who have employees on the dole due to not receiving a living wage. It's about time! Why are our tax dollars used to improve Walmarts bottom line?

So, liberals are stealing my money to give it to people they think aren't getting their due, and the liberals solution to that problem is to steal my money and give it to people that think aren't getting their due. The reason McDonald's and Walmart pay their employees what they do is because that's what the employees are worth.

Raising the minimum wage means the employees that aren't worth the new wage get a pink slip instead. I hope you'll leave your phone number so they can call you to thank you for giving them more time to spend with their families at the park, somewhere out of the wind.

I don't want to share the burden that people making bad decisions bring upon themselves. I want them to learn that their making bad decisions adds to their burden and maybe, just maybe, reconsider improving their decision making skills. It would be something to put on the To Do list.

You, of course, are welcome to take on the load. I think that's one of them there bad decisions that make the world less good for everyone.
