My boyfriends canadian and I'm american... now what?

Eventually we're planning on living together, bur we havent the first idea on how to go about this, such as do either of us need to change our citizenships? Are we possibly eligible for dual citizenships? I was just curious if anyone knew a good website about what needed to be done if an american moved to canada or vice versa. Thank you

You don't need to "change" citizenship and you are both not eligible for duel citizenship.

What you will need to do is decide which country you both want to live in. If you decide you want to both live in Canada then you need to go to www.cic.gc.ca and read how YOU have to apply for Canadian citizenship. It's not automatic if you get married so don't think you can short cut the system that way. You will need to apply like anyone else who wants to come to Canada.

If you both decide you want to live in the US then HE will need to go to the appropriate US immigration website and learn how to apply for US citizenship.

Without citizenship you can both visit the other country for up to 6 months and while visiting you cannot work, study or apply for government benefits. For that either of you will need citizenship.

Both are eligible for dual citizenship. It's easier for the American to obtain Canadian citizenship than vice versa. I recommend that route.
