How much money to buy a postcard in India?

I can't really believe I'm asking this but, I am going to India soon and I have a list people to whom I have to send postcards. In New Zealand, where I live you can buy post cards in stationary shops and in tourist places. I generally pay around a dollar on a post card, but it could be as little as $0.20 or as much as $2.50. I want to know, about how much would I pay in India to buy a post card (not to post one)? ...So I have a rough estimate of how much it would cost.

The present cost of a post card in India is INR 0.50 which, in today's exchange rate, works out to US$ 0.0081. In view of the widespread use of mobile phones, most people have forgotten the art of writing. There is hardly any letter (of personal nature) being sent through post. Important documents are sent through courier service. (Only a few months back the Indian Postal Department discontinued the Telegraph Service (telegrams) because no one, repeat no one, was using it.) The business of post offices is slowly and steadily dwindling and a day will soon come when people would no longer send written articles.

In tourist places, you will get picture post cards, i.e., one side will be printed with scenes depicting places/structures of importance, and on the other there will be space for scribbling a few sentences and for writing the details of addressee. This will cost you slightly more. A pack of 10 cards may cost you Rs.10.00, i.e., about US$ 0.16 plus postage of Re.0.50 per post card.

Post cards and other postal stationery used to be available in stationery and other small shops but for reasons mentioned above, these are no longer stocked.

Well, I can make a few suggestions. Instead of taking a flying leap into the unknown to satisfy your wanderlust and curiosity about the world, why not embark on a holiday or sorts such as volunteering to help underprivileged countries in some project perhaps in your field of painting projects. There are holidays nowadays that you can plan on to suit your interests. Most people have gone on holiday and sit around doing nothing much but it's becoming more acceptable to plan your time by participating in a good cause while also serving your interests or hobbies. That way you'll see the world before making a major decision on whether to pull up roots permanently. It'd be wise to get some experience first and then make up your mind afterwards. Hope this helps.
