How to recover word documents?
A few days ago I lent my laptop to a friend, they opened a word document and they erased half the stuff and then saved it.
Is there a way I can get an "older" version of my word document.
I have Windows Vista.
I now know that you can right-click the document and choose "restore previous version" but that option simple isn't there. It is just gone.
Is there some other way to access the "restore previous version" of a document?
Thank you.

Unless you have another copy of this document, the document is gone. It won't be in the Recycle Bin because it was not deleted. Going back to an earlier restore point won't work either because these only affect system files and not data files such as this.
You can try and go to the Start button and type "xxx*.doc?" where xxx is either the whole or partial name of the document. Press Enter and it will show all occurrences of that title. The * stands for any character or characters. The ? stands for any 1 character and in this instance will search for any doc or docx document.
Good luck.

Click Start Start button , type the document name in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If the File list contains the document, double-click the document to open it in Word.
If the File list does not contain the document, go to step 3.
Click Start Start button , type *.doc in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
Note For Microsoft Office Word 2007 documents or Word 2010 documents, type *.docx.
If the File list does not contain the file,
