Only when the lesson of that fact is not ignored. Like Munich 1938. Repeated just this November with Iran and repeated back in 1994 with North Korea. The lesson ignored.
Truth barely gets it's pants on before a Lie has spread around the world. Like "If, you like your current insurance? You can keep it!"
Once Truth does get it's pants on though? Look out Lie!.

No unfortunately rumors, lies and hoaxes spread way before the truth and historical fact finally come out. Even after the truth comes out, some still insist on believing the original rumors, lies and hoaxes.

Not all the time.
Many times the truth does not come out until all parties affected have deceased.
Just look at the new JFK assassination theory.
The Nixon tapes and impeachment.
