Is It Bad That I'm An Anarchist And Atheist?
I'm an anarchist and atheist that lives in Texas which in case some of you didn't know is basically a Christian/Roman Catholic state. My family which is religious doesn't have a problem but a lot of other people do. My neighbors who threatened to call the cops and every little move I make, my girlfriends parents also disapprove of me, along with my best buds mom. I'm not some radical anarchist who threatens to bomb or anything, I just believe people should rule themselves with no govt. just free rule. Same with atheism, I don't go around criticizing religious groups I keep my beleifs to myself. So is it bad to be what I am or bad to think like this?

Anarchist is bad. It shows that you either are short-sighted or you value your standard of living very little. Without collective action for roads, sewers, water, electricity, education, police, fire, etc. you would have a very hard life without many of the benefits that you take for granted.
Atheist: it depends. If you simply have no belief in God and leave it at that, then no problem.

@Andy C: The state is the means by which the more powerful oppress the less powerful. When you see a labor strike, are the police clubbing greedy industrialists or striking workers? To the extent that the state helps the powerless survive, it is because if they didn't keep society relatively stable, riots would break out. You're in the Sociology section, so presumably, you're pretty likely to be familiar with conflict theory. The state's function is to pacify the population - with the carrot or the stick.
@Brandi: Though I like SLC Punk, the movie doesn't really engage with anarchism as a political theory. The main character really displays a poor understanding of the term, however much his socially libertarian attitudes might be compatible with anarchism. Nor does his conclusion (a faulty one, in my opinion) that one can do more damage within the system necessarily negate anarchism - except to the extent that it seems to be taking for granted that the system cannot ultimately be dismantled. Even playing by the rules can be subversive and an example of direct action when people find ways to exploit loopholes or ambiguities in the system. So, it's not clear that his decision to abandon anarchism is at all based on any rational grounds, and it's certain that it's not based on a solid understanding of anarchism.

Atheist: yes
Anarchist: maybe, with Obama and the liberals running the show we need some change

Atheist, no.
Anarchist, yes. Possibly. Without a system of government what does one do to the more powerful?
