Eh!What's that you say?
My elderly neighbours floored me today.Seems they decided to get hearing aids. The cost,a whopping nzd6000.00 .I couldn't believe my ears,i thought I mis-heard,[excuse the pun].With most stuff being made in China,Japan,or Taiwan, very cheaply, how come these ridiculous prices exist in NZ.Are the sellers having us on? I tried to put this in 'health'category, but it wouldn't take.

If that is for two people, needing two aids each, that's well within the normal range of costs.
Part of the cost will depend on what kind of aids they needed (or preferred). Someone with mild hearing loss will pay less for what they need, for example.
I would also suspect that things like hearing aids do have to be made to higher specs than many of the electronics being produced so cheaply. Speakers for your media player don't need to be very high quality to be adequate - that isn't true of hearing aids. Even then, although you can get speakers very cheaply, there are much more expensive ones around. You very much get the quality for which you pay, and some people chose to pay for the higher quality.
