Did I miss the memo that autism and Down Syndrome are no longer considered disorders?

.

Update:

That seems to be what some people are claiming:

Update 2:

Re: "Down's Syndrome has never been a disorder."

"Down syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes lifelong mental retardation, developmental delays and other problems."

You're probably referring to this question: http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au...

They are disorders, but that doesn't mean they aren't okay. A disorder is simply a personality that is way outside the norm. That's it. Why isn't it okay to be outside the norm?

I also have two emotional disorders, does that make not okay? Nowhere in those answers to that question did people say they aren't disorders, they just said that they are okay.

Down's Syndrome has never been a disorder.

Edit: I don't see anyone saying what you claim they are saying in answer to that question.

Edit: A genetic disorder is not the same as a mental disorder, which both you and the previous poster were trying to imply. Placing them together in the same statement and using "disorder" to describe them is an equivocation fallacy.

They are disorders. Of course, having an IQ that is over about 130 (which is statistically the same number as those with intellectual disabilities), by this the statistical definition of abnormality, would also be considered a disorder.

Asperger's Syndrome has been reclassified as part of the autistic spectrum disorders as of the publication of the DSM-5, if I remember correctly.

As for Down's Syndrome's details of classification, my knowledge is insufficient.

I have Asperger's Syndrome and therefore autistic. They are disorders, but I am okay.

How is this relevant to religion?

Edit: specious logic at work. I suggest a spoonful of chick-fil-a for you.

    Edit: What's your excuse?
