Arctic ice extent up in area and volume, all over for global warming?

Arctic ice extent up in area and volume, all over for global warming?

Often touted as an indication of a warming world, is the recovery of arctic sea ice extent, allied to the growth of Antarctic ace proof that the global warming theory is now finished, dead, defunct?

If not, what does it mean?

Update:

ice for ace whoops.

Update 2:

Rather “inconvenient” for the global warming conspiracy theorists, wouldn’t you say? What it means, is that as much as we think we know about our planet, it just goes and proves us wrong in a heartbeat. This increase in sea ice, they say, is due to a change in wind patterns, of which will increase the amount of sea ice even more next year. So that begs the question, if man-made climate change were responsible for the melting of the ice caps over the past 30 or so years, and the planet can adjust so quickly and easily to that change in literally a span of a few years, perhaps we don’t really have as much of an impact on our climate as we think?

I am not sure what is happening, but something is changing, Arctic temperature were unusually low this summer with lots of cyclones instead of the usual anticyclones, and Arctic temperatures now in the winter are warmer than normal, with much of the cold going south disrupting the northern hemisphere, causing severe snow storms.

The Antarctic ice is growing like crazy, usually every summer it melts back to almost zero extent, but I foresee next summer might be different it might not all melt.

What is going on? I don't know, but it is not caused by CO2 that's for sure.

When looking at a metric I feel it is proper to look at the global picture. Right now, global sea ice extent is equal to 1994 levels and apparently growing.

So what does it mean? Well to a full blown alarmist it means nothing because they just point out past Arctic summer minimum records. Or they go to some other metric (like ocean heat) to soothe their obviously tortured souls. To a full blown denier it's proof that AGW is an elaborate hoax started by the secret World Socialist Society hell bent on global domination.

To me, it doesn't really mean much other than I get to see some people twist into knots which can sometimes be amusing.

The 'record' ice extent is not a record but only a record increase, which is because they had a record low before that. Ice tends to refreeze back to the same level every year. We're only a few months away from being able to say that ice is at the same level it has always been!

Global warming ended over a year ago. The weather your getting is like the 1970's before Global warming

Here's an analogy I've been using for questions like this.

I think the mayors of Analogyville are getting worse and worse. The one we had 4 years ago stole $400, the one we had 3 years ago stole $700, the one we had 2 years ago stole $800, the one we had last year stole $1 million, and the one we had this year stole $1,000.

Now, you could argue that this year's mayor, who only stole $1,000, is a lot better than last year's mayor, the guy who stole $1 million, so the mayors aren't getting "worse and worse". But I think we can both agree that the mayor who stole $1,000 is worse than the mayor who stole $400. The fact that this year's mayor was better than last year's doesn't necessarily mean that Analogyville's mayors are getting better, just that last year's mayor was unusually bad.

Do you see what I'm getting at here? The fact that the Arctic didn't melt quite as badly as last year doesn't mean it's no longer decreasing, or that it's "recovered", just that last year was *unusually* bad, out of keeping with the general trend, and now we are back to the (slightly better) general trend.

It means that the AGW cultists are going to blame the increased arctic ice on global warming just like they blame increased snowfall and ice storms on global warming.

Yes, it has increased from last year's, which was the lowest on record. That's hardly surprising, since records are not typically set every year. I do know that the ice coverage is still a lot below normal--it looks to be between one and two standard deviations below the mean.

The Climate Experts would have us believe it is due to build up of heat, hiding in the Deap Ocean

"Arctic ice extent up in .... and volume"

You don't even know what "extent" means.
