Places to visit in Melbourne, Australia?
I am here on a holiday, and my boyfriend is joining me next month. I want to. Ring him out to good and lovely places in Melbourne.
I have listed the following (some are in different states I think):
Aquarium
Werribee Zoo
Sovereign Hill
Mornington Peninsula
Crown Casino
St.Kilda Beach
We love to sightsee. Just not something that hasn't much substance to it, i dont want to just sit in a bus and look out the window.
Also, no clubs please, and I'm already good with restaurants so that's not a problemMaybe a good affordable pub in the city? And also a good Bollywood joint (no dancers) like a lounge or something. Just these and some good sightseeing, thanks!

Hi Loshy,
How long will you be in Melbourne for? Those are all in Melbourne and other parts of Victoria (the state which Melbourne is the capital city) and they are good ones.
Since you like to sight-see you may enjoy the Puffing Billy train ride in the Dandenongs, just over an hour outside Melbourne. It's a train that travels through the tree tops and there are some beautiful sights to see. You can sit on the ledge of the window and stick your legs out. It's a great experience.
If you're looking at sticking to Melbourne itself then you could do the Eureka Skydeck. You will get a fantastic 360 degree view of Melbourne. It's best viewed at sunset, in my opinion. You could do a Yarra River cruise which will take you through the heart of the city. The Royal Botanical Gardens and the Fitzroy Gardens are very beautiful so you might like to walk through those. The Melbourne Zoo is also another one you should add to your list. You may want to see King Kong at the Regent Theatre.
Other suggestions that are outside Melbourne are the Great Ocean Road, stopping at towns like Torquay, Lorne, Apollo Bay, Port Campbell (where the 12 Apostles are), and Warrnambool. Then there's Phillip Island which is about 2 hours south east of the city, and Wilsons Promontory which is an extra hour on top of that.
Here's a link for you to get some ideas.

Melbourne Zoo is a good place to visit (different from Werribee Park, which is an open range zoo), if you want to see some Australian wildlife. You get the 55 tram out from William St in the CBD.
The Werribee Zoo is about 3/4 from Melbourne, and when you get there, you can take a ride in a safari bus all around the park, and it's well worth the trip. There is also a place called Werribee Mansion, virtually next door to the zoo, which is also worth looking at.
The Botanic Gardens are good to visit, off St Kilda Rd.
Sovereign Hill is in the town of Ballarat, so you will need to go there on the train, or drive there. It's very interesting.
The Melbourne Museum, up in Carlton (only a few tram stops from the city, I think it's the 96 tram) is well worth a visit. It's very big, so you will need a fair bit of time there.
The National Gallery of Victoria in St Kilda Rd is worth a visit, if you like looking at art and artefacts. The main exhibition there is usually free.
If you visit the Half Tix kiosk in Burke St Mall, or near the Town Hall, you can get tickets for shows at half price.
That should help a bit.

I would add to the previous answer, the Melbourne Star wheel is now running in Docklands, as far as Pubs, there is Young and Jacksons, corner of Flinders and Swanston streets, and the Waterside at 508 Flinders.
