Accounting vs. Mechanical Engineering? <-Job availability?

I am a Mechanical Engineering major in college and I am about to finish my second and I am not really enjoying engineering at this point, so I was wondering if Accounting has as much job availability as Mechanical Engineering. Also, how much does the pay differ?

I graduated a few years ago (when the economy was not quite as good) with a degree in mechanical engineering. I had two job offers at graduation.

One of my buddies graduated with an accounting degree. It took him two years to find a true accounting position. My starting pay was about 50% higher than his (granted he wasn't an accountant at that point).

I'm not sure what pay increase he got once he did obtain an accounting position.

depends on what it is about engineering that you dont like. Most good engineers actively like the work & get a buzz from what they're doing, especially if it involves hands on work. Personally I couldn't think of anything more boring than being an accountant. However if you are looking for a career purely on the ease of obtaining a job & the salary you'll make then go for it.

Both will get you into a good career.

Engineering has higher entry level pay, but a trained accountant can find a good job, too.
