Are Snark tuners safe on nitrocellulose lacquer?

Hi folks - this is actually the first time I've tried to post a question, and I really hope it ends up in Performing Arts as intended...

Anyway, I'm thinking about a recreational trip to GC on this not-so-fine Sunday afternoon, and for a long time I've been debating picking up a clip-on tuner. But I'm really paranoid about the 68-year-old nitrocellulose on my OOO-18. Goodness knows that manufacturers don't always pay attention to these things, and nitro can react in a matter of seconds. Does anybody know if the rubber pads on the Snark are safe? I can always glue cork and/or felt on there, but it would be great if someone could tell me whether that's necessary. Any advice is welcome!

Update:

I could always make up a test piece with some nitro, I suppose, but the formulation might be different and there's no way I can replicate the effects of age.

    Hi jcr.

I can't imagine that it would harm the lacquer.

    You could try contacting

marcy@snarktuners.com That's the contact address for Snark's service.

To see if they have heard of any issues like that. (of course that will be too late for your trip) you can always return it.

I know Mikey swears by that little gadget.

    OOOO my...check this out.

these guys have some opinions! They are saying that the instructions for Snark say to NOT use it on nitro. However, they do say that they use them on their Martins, just not to leave it on and remove it when you finish tuning.

(only one dumb suggestion by one guy to use masking tape!!)

Personally, I would treat a vintage martin with more caution and simply continue to use a standard digital tuner with the built in mic. Since you have to take the clip on off anyway...I'd keep going the way you have..

That's my two cent's worth! Hope that helps some. God knows you've helped enough people with good advice...!

    Understand such concern.

And, understand the 'sweet' expressions an older guitar can express.

Usually I'd not risk any of my vintage pieces, and really try to be comfortable with another unit to play and avoid damage to a guitar that may need such attention with any additional gear to worry about.

All depends as well, the duration you intend to use your triple-0 18.

But, we have to leave it all up to you to make a decision.

For me, I'd trust my own tune-as-I-go... without any clip-ons.
