For those of you without historical background. 26 weeks was the
standard for the entire country. Until the day Obama decided that
he was going to stretch it out to some completely asinine number.
And 26 weeks should be what it is again. Thanks.

Your neighbor's unemployment runs out after his $16/hr. job goes to China. The house he's been making payments on for 10 years goes into foreclosure. He moves out. The shops in town have one less customer, or a thousand less customers, according to how many got laid off with him. Meth heads move into the empty house. You have a secure job, because you planned your life wisely, but the value of your home fell because of the homeless meth heads tearing up your neighbor's, I mean the bank's empty house. That means you have less money for your retirement. Your neighbor could have gotten a job at Subway, but it pays less than the unemployment and the neighbor knew there would be no hope in keeping their house then. So, there you have it. Unemployment doesn't just affect the unemployed.

Its always been 26 weeks except in extreme situations like the 2008 recession but 99 weeks is too much and because the benefits are too high, it discourages people from working until they run out. I think benefits should not vary according to individual earnings but should be across the board everyone gets the same amount.

an excellent idea, a pity Australia does not follow the example. far too many in Australia decide that the dole is meant to be a life style. and the disability pension is an absolute joke. the only disability many on that particular milk cow is that their disability is that they hate the idea of work

I would rather spend money on unemployment to help the average Joe out than to see Obama on vacation. Good grief, $100 million for his Africa trip, $10 Million for his funeral trip, $20 Million for his Hawaiian trips, $100,000 for his kid to go to Mexico City and $100,000 for his wife to go to Spain, all on our money. I suggested to my Senator wants to fund unemployment the best place to cut is Presidential travel. Put him on a budget.

Bad idea, if people can fall into total-poverty, they take longer to recover, which actually costs more overall, than having good unemployment benefits.
