I'm thinking about vegeterianism?

I recognize that meat tastes great, and that I shouldn't just do it because I think it's a fad or something, but I was wondering;

How do I raise my ethical concerns about the treatment of animals with family members without treating them badly?

I love my family, and my friends, I don't want them to think i'm being self-superior or egotistical.

worry about human treatment before animal treatment. if you care about treatment of living things so much, learn about human trafficking and how to stop it, rather than cows being given hormones.

But, just tell them all to stop buying meat. instead get a hunting or fishing license and hunt or fih for your food. wild animals have plenty of space and are very lean and healthy to eat, if enough people do this there will be less need for contaminated burgers and such. consider this before going vegetarian.

Just make it clear that you're not trying to convert them, you're just exercising a personal belief. Any well-meaning relative or acquaintance won't want to keep you from following your beliefs. They might also respect your decision more if you educate them with the reasoning behind your choice.

There are many benefits to vegetarianism. Animal treatment, as you mentioned, is certainly one, but the environmental and health benefits may be even greater.

It's hard to contest the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. Vegetarians have lower incidences of "cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and renal disorders", according to the National Institute of Health.

The vegetarian diet is a tremendous help to the environment. Raising animals for food is very resource-intensive and has tremendous impacts. It requires about 1,800 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef, compared with just 13 gallons of water to produce a pound of lettuce. Meat industries also contribute to harmful water runoff and greenhouse gas emissions.

Vegetarianism is also better on the budget. Grocery shopping for vegetarian meals costs much less.

After some time on a vegetarian diet, you may no longer even crave meat. I also find vegetarian cooking to be much more pleasant--I don't enjoy trimming and prepping raw meat in the kitchen. There are also many vegetarian foods to learn about and implement--a vegetarian diet has the potential to be more diverse, with greater variety than a meat diet.

Point out that 1lb of edible beef takes 5000 gallons of water to produce and that 'cycling' grain through animals is a very inefficient way of feeding humans.

You could also point out the waste of energy, the effulent and other waste from such places, that can leak into the public water supply.

Also the number of slaughterhouse workers that are injured and their companies are 'fined' truly pathetic amounts, thanks to the meat industry lobbying efforts.

Challenge them to eat one meat (or fishless) meal a week. Take slow steps.

When you buy a piece of meat, there is a lot of waste, like excess fat. You can eat all of a vegetable (including stalks, cook them for longer though).

Just point out the smell of a butchers shop, after its been 'cleaned' at the end of each business day. Does a greengrocers shop smell that bad?

All the antibiotics and hormones fed to US animals, that are banned in other countries.

I'm guessing that this question was asked by a woman, if so, try this, find a photo of a middle aged woman who is a vegetarian, and then find a photo of an equivalent, who is not a vegetarian !

    Nuff said !

You got rights men. It is not like if you become a vegetarian, you will impose vegetarianism on your peeps.

    remember, it is your life.
