car question. needs rebuild?

Ok. I have a lowered s13 and was going over a train track and thought it was smaller than it was. Went over the train track and realized it was bigger than I thought as I was literally in the air and slammed the bottom of my engine on the ground. It started making weird noises after. Headed home with music blasting and noticed 5 minutes from home that my check oil light was on ( probably broke my oil pan) and turned my music down to listen to the engine and it was VERY loud with a clinking type noise. Stopped at a Walmart to buy oil and when I turned the car off it started to smoke from under the hood. Bought oil, put it in, drove home knowing I broke something. I'm an idiot. The acceleration was VERY slow and tons of smoke poured out the back. The faster I went the more smoke came out. So I've come to the conclusion I fried the piston rings and I need a rebuild.

I need some assurance thats the problem before I pay a shop probably 2k for a rebuild.Hitting my engine could done this?

No you didn't fry the piston rings. Piston rings are there to make compression and to keep oil out from the combustion chamber.

What you did is melt the main bearings. The main bearings are what the crankshaft sits/revolves on. You might be able to get away with just replacing those. Have some one perform a compression test to make sure each chamber can still hold compression and the heads are not cracked or warped. If all is good, you might be able to just replace the main bearings. This type of engine failure is typical when and engine is run without oil. This is what actually causes an engine to seize, the crankshaft has overheated the main bearings and "welded" itself to the bearings.

Yes, Oil is the life blood of an engine. A cracked oil pan will leak all the oil out and when the oil is gone friction will cause the engine to overheat. You will need moiré than new rings I'm afraid. A rebuilt engine from a parts store may be a cheaper alternative if you are handy with tools.

an S13 ?? Sounds like you punched a hole in your oil pan. You probably need a rebuild or a used engine.

You said it, you are an idiot. It will be more than just rings, total rebuild is needed. Could be very expensive, might be cheaper to seek a reasonable secondhand engine.
