Religious people, how does it feel knowing that free will has been disproven scientifically?

It has been demonstrated scientifically by using electrical nodes attached to your head that it is possible to predict the actions of someone seconds before they do it. For example, in a lab experiment involving electrical impulses reacting with my cortex, if I made the conscious decision to pick up and eat an apple, this event can be predicted seconds before I were to even have the urge to do it. Your own actions are predetermined by societal, environmental, genetic factors etc. In other words, we are simply the recipients of our brain.

What effect does knowing that free will is an illusion have on your religion?

Update:

Edit: Reason for no sources is that my question can't be posted with links, it's unfortunate. Just Google "Benjamin Libet free will experiment" for source, apologies in advance.

@Tadashi: I'm not talking about your muscular action to do something, I'm talking about having the conscious urge to do something.

what exactly do you think agency is?

First, I am not a religious person, I am a Wiccan who believes in free will and choice. Experimentation aside, the idea of being able to exercise free will is still much preferable to the idea of manifest destiny. I reject the idea of being shaped into a small box of what I will and should do. If this was in fact an ordinance of the human condition, crime, love, bigotry and hatred would all be pre-ordained. Also, learning and compromise would be false ideas. I reject your premise and your scientific conclusion.

I always assumed it was just playing with words, and this is a good illustration of how the good time games just keep on rollin'.

I recall reading something like what you describe. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. This experiemtn has absolutely nothing whatsoever in any way shape or form to do with the hypothetical BS sometimes called free will.

    Garbage in, garbage out.

    I like Fred / Pauli.

You really don't understand the nervous system, do you?

Of course electrical activity precedes muscular action.

This has nothing to do with the philosophy of free will.

PS: The brain is very complex. I still maintain that a quirk in the wiring like this proves nothing, other than we don't know all of the brain's secrets.

Science can not come in to the fold of soul and spirit . You are claiming by your own yourself as if you are a scientist who are expert in metaphysics.

Can you use any electronic equipment to detect soul in your body ,when you can not ,would you deny that there is no soul.

Tell the truth, what are soul and spirit in term of empirical science if you are truthful to your materiallistic view point.

I don't know why you are asking religious people. This applies to Atheists as well, and anyone else who believes in the concept of 'law' and 'ethics'.

I am not surprised as scientist or those fanatics of science are always out to control us and our free will. :-)

We are not that superior to know what is going to happen. Destiny is the future events not your instances
