Is a killer who is calm and in control scarier than a killer who is out of control emotionally? Why?

    That's tough.

The calm and in control killer has reason and purpose. They will not be easily swayed and are expecting a fight.

The emotionally out of control one could do anything and is apt to either be deadlier or less deadly.

I honestly can't choose. Both are pretty horrible.

Obviously yes, that a calm and collective would-be mass shooter/killer can be a bit on the scarier side being that he is totally unpredictable. On the other hand, an out of control shooter and his actions would already be put out there for all to see - loud sounds of gun firing, people screaming in a frenzy and scattering everywhere, etc. You already know what his intentions are...and that's to take as many lives as possible. That's when someone or police officers would tactically move in to stop the threat ASAP!

Yes, I believe an emotional killer could be reasoned with if you find the root of their problem. With a calm controlled killer, they are doing what they want, no reasoning at all, there is no changing their mind.

as in a serial killer/conteact killer? Well it really depends on their character. If you take someone like the joker (played by heath ledger in the dark knight) who was a crazy schizophernic who created havoc because he could then he is really terrifying, but if the killer is very intense and silent then he can be equally terrifying as he can creep on on you in an instant, he has efficient methods for killing, and most of the time, all killers are out of control on the inside

I personally find criminals like the Joker scarier

The ones that are usually calm and in control are usually ruthless. You're f*cked if he has you in his sights. But the emotional freak can be "controlled" with the right choice of words. That's how I see it.

Both are scary in their own ways.

No, the one who is out of controlled can't be reasoned with - sociopaths might not have the same morals, or a sense of guilt when doing something "wrong" but they have a sense of selfishness that can be appealed to...
