why do people play candy crush saga?

It requires less strategy and tactics than pacman and practically erodes peoples souls. It's a pile of simplistic rubbish designed to make money having spent hardly anything on development. There are no rewards or achievements that mean something. Most people who play better games don't play candy crush. I just don't find it interesting, it's repetitive and requires hardly any skill.

Update:

Wow "It's addicting" such an amazing answer, I'm sure i know why people play such a piece of crap now.

It isn't about strategy or tactics, it's about reflex and observation, and probably a bit of luck. That need to find the best match quickly is what keeps people going, making it to the next level is what makes the game exciting.

While you may not like the game, it's not really a surprise that it's done so well. People scratch their heads a lot at candy crush, but in the basic game mechanics it works very much like Bejeweled which has been around for years and is still very popular. In fact Match 3 games have become it's own genre.

I personally like to play the 3 Match genre on occasion and out of that genre Candy Crush is certainly the one of the best. A single session can be quick and good for when you're waiting only for a few minutes.

Understandably it's not for everyone, but neither are FPS, Pokemon or the latest MMO.

So there are achievements that "mean something" in other games? I always viewed achievements as fun little things you can try to get if you want, but they won't put in the drawing for a million dollars or anything.

Candy Crush succeeds for the exact reasons you stated: it's simplistic, repetitive, and requires hardly any skill. It is for the true casual gamer, the ones who played Farmville, who don't have workhorse computers to play Crysis or who don't own consoles because they're not into controllers for gaming. They just want a little something to do to waste their time.

Remember, some of the best, most groundbreaking, most popular games are the ones that don't require a lot of skill, top of the line graphics, and massive budgets. GTAV is pretty, but it's made for a very specific gamer. Pinball machines, on the other hand ... pure luck, very simplistic, yet is always occupied at the local arcade.

It's called an opinion. Fun isn't objective and it never will be no matter how much you try to call your games "better" than anyone else's. It exists for enjoyment and as long as people have fun playing it, it's done its job.

Just accept that people can have different tastes than you and you'll never have to worry about these things again. I don't really like Call of Duty, but I don't immediately assume everyone who plays it is an idiot because I don't enjoy it.

You are entitled to your opinion.

Judging by your recent questions you believe that the games that you play are superior to all others, therefore you think that you are better than most people.

I am going to let you in on a little secret. Your parents did not love you, that is why they named you Eltener.

If you don't don't like it don't play it.

People have different opinions on what's "fun" and addicting, if you don't agree that's fine it's your opinion, however you did take the time to rant about it.
