Math homework question?

Any help on how to do this question would be appreciated. I've been trying to work it out but am having trouble with the algebra.

You are a quality control technician in a dairy plant. During routine testing, you discover that the batch of "half and half" cream in the holding tank has a milk fat content of 9%. If the standard for milk fat in this product is 10%, how much 40% milk fat cream must be added to bring the "half and half" cream in the tank to 10% milk fat? There is 5000kg of 9% milk fat cream currently in the tank.

Thanks in advance!

BeeFree is right, and here is how to think about it.

The key is to write down everything you can using algebra.

You want the total fat / total milk to be 10 % or = 0.1.

Let x = the amount of 40% butterfat to add.

The total amount of milk will be x + 5000 kg.

The total amount of fat will be 0.09 times 5000 plus 0.4x.

Now you can write BeeFree's first equation.
