With even a prescription for marijuana is the cost high?

Thinking of getting a prescription for marijuana. (would rather not have to smoke it, but clueless about the various options at this point). Is it still costly even when you have a medical reason for taking it? ( My doctor says he is fine with me using marijuana) No reason to pay a doctor to give me a 'scrip if I can't afford what the Medical marijuana shop/stores are charging.

Any medical marijuana users out there that can offer me serious information?

I'm not interested in stoner jokes etc.

    They charge almost as much as street dealers. At least in San Francisco they do.

    First of all , you have to live in a state where Medical Marijuana is legal.

    In Colorado an 1/8th in most shops is $25. I have seen sales $150 ounces.
