How About doing this?
The U S is now systematically calling for Gay marriage to be legal. And laws by states, even with a vast majority of people want marriage to be only between a man and a woman are being called unconstitutional.
Here is a possible solution to make most people happy..
How about this. Outlaw all marriage. And make the state pay for all child upbringing. The only exception would be for a couple to raise children on their own if they desire.
This way everyone is happy.
Gays are happy. They can live with whoever or whatever they want.
Atheists are happy as God is the originator of marriage and they don't want anything to do with God.
Christians are happy. They can have their own ceremony if they desire and bring up their own children if they want to pay for them (no tax breaks)
The only unhappy ones would be the ACLU and Muslims. No need to say why and give them ammunition.
What do you think?
One answerer says a marriage must be legal. Would that stand if there were no legal marriages recognized by the state? A Christian marriage then would have to be finalized by an elder, pastor, priest or? of whatever religion a person professes. That would legalize a union between a man and woman in God's eyes. Of course if they wanted a government official they could still travel to another country.
@kitty False Texas passed a state constitutional amendment with a 76% majority. California with a 58% majority
Am I against marriage? Some seem to think so. No I am not. In fact Marriage is a divinely authorized institution. See Genesis 2:22-24. But think about it. We are living in critical times says the Bible. And marriage is under attack from all sides. What would you do if marriage inside the state was no longer recognized? How could we remain pleasing to our God?

I see the point you are making. It seems that marriage the way our Creator intended it to be has been overtaken by what the world thinks marriage should be.
Jehovah God performed the first marriage ceremony when he presented Eve to Adam and she became his wife.
The Bible has great advice on marriage and how to maintain Gods righteous standards when it comes to this sacred union between a man and a woman.
Nowadays marriage vows do not seem important to the majority who make them. The divorce rate is very high and couples divorce for a variety of reasons, many of which could be avoided if the Bibles councel to husbands and wives was taken seriously and followed.

Remember when there were states where the majority of enfranchised voters wanted to keep slavery? Well, I don't either, because that happened about 100 years before I was born. But a legal doctrine was demonstrated with the Emancipation Proclamation: citizen rights are too essential to leave to the vagaries of popular vote.

“...with a vast majority of people want marriage to be only between a man and a woman”
Sorry, but the votes that are being held on that issue prove that ^ premise false. So why should I even bother with the rest of your concept?
I’m sorry, but I think your stance is ignorant, antiquated, and unfair. What difference does it make to you AT ALL if two people you don’t even know get married? Marriage was around long before your Judeo-Christian god, so why do you believe that your god is the originator of marriage?

"laws by states, even with a vast majority of people want (insert local sins here) are being called unconstitutional."
Same as they would still be denying black people the vote in the USA, according to laws made by states. Oh! sorry. Forgot - they still are.

I am not happy. I don't want to pay for someone else to have kids.
Marriage has value to the government. Having two people responsible for contracts makes contract more secure. That's true regardless of the sex of the marriage partners.

You do realize that the public overwhelmingly opposed Loving v. Virginia (the SCOTUS case prohibiting state bans on interracial marriages) by about 90%. So, public opinion doesn't seem to be that great of a moral reference point.

bob here's the Bibles answer:
God created humans to engage in sex only within the arrangement of marriage between a male and a female. (Genesis 1:27, 28; Leviticus 18:22; Proverbs 5:18, 19) The Bible condemns sexual activity that is not between a husband and wife, whether it is homosexual or heterosexual conduct. (1 Corinthians 6:18) This includes intercourse, fondling another person’s genitals, and engaging in oral or anal sex.
While the Bible disapproves of homosexual acts, it does not condone hatred of homosexuals or homophobia. Instead, Christians are directed to “respect everyone.”—1 Peter 2:17, Good News Translation.
Can a person be born homosexual?
