Michael Crabtree a #1 WR?
Eagles fan here, so I'm neutral. Would like rational SF fan's opinions, along with other rational fans. Let's go with Richard Sherman for a second....and talk about MIchael Crabtree's worth. His contract is up after the 2014 season. Jim Harbaugh plays him up to have the "best hands of all time". Obviously that's over the top. But here is a guy that really has only had only 1 season of note..85 catches for 1105 yds and 9 td's. Other than that, it's not real pretty. Now he was hurt this season...but in the games he did play his stats don't jump out at you. So as a GM, how much money would you give Crabtree? Would you want to sign him long term as your #1 WR? For me it's an easy no....I feel his "perceived worth" in the NFL is far higher that I think his actual worth would be to the team. I think Boldin is the superior WR on that team....and I would give Boldin a nice fat 2 year contract with no itention of resigning Crabtree after this season (he is going to ask for big time money). Keep in mind that Crabtree is going to try and stay healthy and put up as big of numbers as he can this year to jack up his asking price.
Let me add.,..he will ask for at least DeSean Jackson numbers...5 years $47 million....but I would think he will ask for $10 million/year.......Welker get $6 million/year

Crabtree is definitely a #1 and clearly better than Boldin at this point in their careers. It's no coincidence that Kaepernick and the passing game took off when Crab came back and was Kaepernick's #1 target during last year's SB run. He's one of the best WRs at creating separation, both with his release at the line and in and out of breaks. Boldin can't get open anymore and has to win 50-50 balls to make plays these days. Stats are a product of many factors, which is why I'm not a huge stat guy in football. Crabtree's QB for most of his career has been Alex Smith who doesn't turn the ball loose down the field unless the guy is 10 yards wide open. Plus they've been run heavy team that doesn't air it out like other teams. I definitely re-sign him to what he's worth, which may be top WR money.

Boldin is getting up there and he deserves at BEST, mid #2 WR numbers while Crabtree is more of a lowend 1. I'd give Crabtree the same money as guys like Hakeem Nicks and Eric Decker.

I wouldnt say he is the best wide reciever in the game., considering all the great ones in the game like Damarious Thomas, or Erik Decker, and he has never really made a game deciding play. But he is good enough to make the Seahawks make their game plan around him. if I was aGm i would try to get him because he is young and full of potential but I would not go over 4 years because he gets injured.

You'd be an idiot not to resign one of your best players. Once he came back that SF offense got better and was on a roll. He doesn't get many receptions but makes the play when needed. Look at welker's #'s, their terrible this year for his career but they obviously needed him on 3rd down

Crabtree needs to get resigned. He's one of the 49ers best players, they'd be a fool to let him go.
