Is it possible to buy a Hyundai i40 estate wagon in the US?

Saw this car in Germany and knew I wanted one... But it's only available in the international markets. Is it possible to get a car imported here, either through a dealership or a private seller?

If the car does not have US type approval you have to wait until it is over 25 years old to import it to the US. US customs are very strict on this. They will seize and destroy any car not approved for the US under 25 years old.

In the UK where I am it is much simpler to import a car from elsewhere. There is a simple process to get it individually approved for use here.

Unless Hyundai submit if for type approval inthe US and it passes you are stuck until it is 25 years old.

    Such is the US system.

what a shame. A beautiful wagon that would give VW, Audi, BMW andVolvo some very hot competition.

In addition, Hyundai could easily build a superb looking "El Camino style light duty Pick-Up that I know

    would be very well received.

There are a lot of folks who long for a nice comfortable daily driver with the multi-use of an El Camino.

Hyundai could have a market niche all to themselves which I am certain would introduce a whole new group

    to their showrooms.

Folks are tired of the big hulking SUVs and the oversized pickups called Mid-Size.....we also love wagons

Source(s): I am an Auto Enthusiast with more than ample experience in judging trends and seeking information. It is frustrating to see in pring so many auto Editors and Journalists begging for sporty wagons and being ignored by the industry. The same is true of the El Camino style LightDuty Pickups. Didn't you hear the cheers when GM went so faras to evenstage a contest to name the car built by Holden in Australia. It was a beautiful "Ute" to use their designation. Then they cancelled it when they axed Pontiac who was going to market the new arrival.Very disappointing to a whole lot of folks. This is an idea worth some HIGH LEVEL thought and Hyundai has the perfect platform for boththe Wagon and the Camino in theirI-40.
