Is it just me, or does it seem odd for a normal 17 year old boy, to sleep with his Mommy every night?
Maybe I am just not up with todays standards, but to me this seems odd. If he were sick, I could understand. Every body wants their Mom when they don't feel good but this is normal practice.
I know it is none of my business, but I wonder if it is just me who thinks this is odd?
This boy is not mine! I am just one of their neighbors and friend. Maybe I am not the normal one for thinking this was odd and wanted you all's opinion.
This boy has no friends, never had a girlfriend, doesn't go to school and has never worked. I have known them for many many years.

That is really weird. If you are sick, that's more normal. I have two 18 year old boys, and even if they were dying they would not want to sleep in the same bed with me. Don't get me wrong, my sons and I are pretty close, but sleeping in the same bed with teenagers is not good for their mental stability.

Yes, it is odd. I personally would think anything above age 10 (and even then not every night) is a bit odd but there are some understanding explanations as to why this is still happening. When I was a teenager (16) I was friends with a boy who slept in his mothers bed. It was odd to me, so I asked him why that was and it turned out that when he was a child, his father once climbed through his window one night and abducted him and he's slept with his mother ever since. It's most likely to do with the way he was raised, (not necessarily bad, but different) if he had a bad dream or was upset he'd climb into bed with his mum, yes? Or maybe she's really passive and had always let him climb into her bed when he's come and asked and eventually he has just ended up sleeping there. To him, it's completely normal. I imagine that as a child his mom did everything for him, fixed his problems and maybe rarely said no. He feels safe around her.
But yes, this is generally very odd behaviour for a 17 year old boy, it's just easily explained. I'd consider all of that behaviour odd for a 17 year old boy. Depending on how close you are with the mother, maybe suggest an extra circular activity for the boy to get involved in. Meet some new people.

It is a little atypical, considering most kids this age are dying to be independent. Have you thought about why he might be doing it? Maybe he had a falling out with friends, or girl problems of some sort, and is in extra need for support and companionship. It's also possible that he's nervous about leaving home for college (I assume he's a junior or senior in high school), and might want to hold on a little longer.

It is odd and not a normal practice. The only time I have ever slept with my boys is when we stay at a hotel. Their sister does not want to sleep with them.

He needs some time with you due to feeling left out, or also that most people (And animals!) feel "Safer" by mind when they are near a loved one or in this case, their parents. Try spending some time with him (Sports game, riding bikes) then start telling him to sleep in another room. This will make it so he feels safer by mind and also isn't teared apart from his mother in 1-3 days if you force him to move.
