What color is Novolin Insulin supposed to be?
If anyone uses this, can you tell me what color the liquid is supposed to be?
Why is that you can not shake the vial, but only gently rotate it?

Novolin produce several types of insulin but insulin itself is clear. However type N or NPH insulin is mixed with protoamine giving it a milky appearance. The protoamine settles out so you end up with thick white stuff and clear insulin. They have a glass ball inside so rolling it around mixes the two back together into a smooth milky appearance. Insulin can't be shaken because it's a folded large protein molecule and shocks can unfold some of it. It only loses effectiveness if it's shocked.
