Do central american people not have the same concept of personal space?

I know this woman from Guatemala and she's always standing so close to me I'm running into her. I don't really mind it but just find it weird. Is that just a cultural thing?

Yes how near or far apart we are when interacting is very much a cultural thing. Americans generally like a little space between each other when interacting - with some other cultures that is not the case. When I was in India with many other westerners we were told before a cross cultural event with the Adivasi Indians that they like to be very very close to people when interacting so we should expect it and not get upset by it. They were right! even knowing ahead of time what to expect it still took some getting used to.

Yes. I had the same problem in Malaysia. Different cultures have different "zones".
