I have an LG HDTV and I was wondering if there's anyway to turn off the input's auto detect feature?
I have an LG 47LN5400 I purchased last year. As much as 2-3 times per hour a prompt on the screen indicates that I've plugged something into the component input(which I don't use at all) and asks if I'd like to switch to that input. I've looked through the menus but can't find anything. Is there any way to turn off this feature?

It's amazing to me how many "experts" tell you to read the manual, like you couldn't think of that. So very helpful...
Anyway, the only suggestions I have are these:
Have you tried actually switching to the Component Input to get it to "shut up"? If so, have you tried to reset the TV by not just turning it off but unplugging it for a few minutes to let all the circuits de-energize? If so - have you tried to ask LG about this - I looked at your manual online (.pdf) and found no help in Troubleshooting, etc. (here):

So maybe this is something LG is aware of - here's their support site (email or live chat):

Hope this has been of some help... Good luck!

I never had this problem before until recently when I connected by LG TV to our home network that has Internet connection. The TV updated its firmware and boom!, this bug appeared. So annoying. Some advise that I turn on the simplink feature but simplink is simply dumb. The TV turns on unnecessarily like when I just want to listen to the radio or music on the home theater. When I turn off the TV, the home theater when on radio/music mode turns off as well even when using the TV remote. And when you turn off the home theater but still need to use the TV the TV also turns off.

For others who are suffering through this LG TV bug, I got around the annoying pop up by plugging one end of a component cable into component 1 on the TV, and plugging the other end into component 2. So far it has stopped the ridiculous nag screen from reporting phantom connections.

my lg does the same thing but only when I connect an external device to it. I think it comes up "an external device has been connected, do you wish to proceed", or something like that. just press the no and it will go away. mine doesn't come back once I press no. as a matter of fact, I think if u leave it on long enough it will go away by itself. as far as the lg manual goes, mine is less than useless.

The answer my friend is located in the manual that tells the new owner how to work the TV he just purchased.
