How did you learn to drive in snow?

For me, I went into a parking lot that was empty, and played around to get the "feel" of how the car would handle on snow and ice.

How did you learn?

EMPTY parking lots are a great idea but you can look for empty/deserted streets too because the highway you'll be driving on won't be as BIG as a parking lot! Don't forget to get the car up to speed...brake like you see a car to avoid and practice "turning INTO the skid" ( facing the front end of the car in the direction of the skid you're in ) and try to come to a stop by by lightly pumping your brakes instead of pushing as hard as you can. Sounds like you have a plan! Good for you!!

Source(s): Learned driving in the snow in upstate NEW YORK. Now own a 4x4 Jeep so snow doesn't bother me at all.

Very young, feeding cattle and driving drifted country roads to get to another bunch of cattle. Learned to drive on all kinds of roads before I had a license. Not a lot of kids raised like that anymore. Fewer and fewer rural families.

I just went out and drove in it. I love driving in the snow, it's fun. Just drive very slowly. And you don't turn into the direction of the skid you turn the opposite way. So if you slide to the right turn you wheel to the left

Like yourself, empty parking lots. I even repeat it every year to relearn how the car behaves when it loses traction and how to regain that traction as quickly as I can.

Just started this week and have already done it 4 times. I was just confident that I can get out there and drive safely. Got it. :) Its kinda fun...
