Shut off dry sprinkler system?
My HOA president showed me how to shut off the dry sprinkler system in case we had a broken pipe somewhere. I thought this was suspicious, as the last time we had a broken pipe (and the floors were flooding) I asked the fire department if we were able to shut off the valves ourselves, and the fire department specifically said, "No."
Are we in fact allowed to shut off the dry sprinkler system in the event of a broken pipe, or should we just let the floors flood like they happened last time? We do have insurance.
I don't feel comfortable doing this.
I'm on the HOA (Homeowner's association) board.

the fire dept. is correct. don't shut them off. whomever told you to is wrong!! I wouldn't want to be responsible if a fire happened and someone got hurt or killed....you? if they freeze, then its God's fault.
furthermore, the halon systems pipes are made to NOT break if they freeze! that's the way there manufactured.
