Can you "clean" a grain fed steer by pasturing for a period of time?

For the past 2 years my family has raised and butchered our own grass fed only steers. This winter we don't have any stock ready to go, our next steer to be ready won't be until next year. We would like to purchase another steer to do, but of course the grain fed steers are much easier to find, cheaper, and closer than the grass fed only steer. i can't seem to find any information on if you can "un grain" a steer, or "clean" it by putting it on grass for a period of time. I can probably wait as long as 2 to 3 months to butcher, so would have that amount of time where it would get grass only. Thoughts?

Update:

Not in the heavy beef area where we live. I have beef cattle in the fields all around me, and particularly in the winter they are fed grains frequently. Having had actual grass fed beef for 2 years there is absolutely a difference between what I get in the stores, and what we raised and butchered that we know had no grains (besides maybe a handful of "all stock feed").

a grain fed steer was a grass fed steer first. Grain only adds fat on to the steer. It does not make it an unclean animal.

I am not sure what you mean by a grain fed steer is "of course easier to find" as most all beef ranches do not feed grain. The steers, when sold to a feed lot are THEN fed grains. On a ranch its still all grass fed.
