What happens if I take my SIM card out of my note 2?

I am with AT&T and I am being shipped a new phone due to my phone being damaged. I am not sure if my contacts and stuff is saved to my phone or sim card. If I take it out I understand I cannot call or text but once I take it out will it work if I put it back in or will I have to call customer service to activate my phone?

    Those are saved to the phone. The SIM is not a memory card. Yes it will work once you put it back in.
