Transmission flush damage?

I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra. It is used, so it has approx 161,000 miles on it. I got a transmission flush with an oil change today and am hearing that it could damage my car? The fluid was a greasy orange color.

Update:

@MadDog- No problems. I just got it done about 40 minutes ago. I was just asking because there's so much heresay about it.

A flush in an older car with high miles can damage your transmission. If you have 161k on

the car and never had the fluid and trans. filter changed it could damage the trans.. Are

you having problems now with the transmission since the flush or are you just asking the

question in advance anticipating problems because someone said it could cause problems?

All in all it is done and if it is running okay just keep driving it. There is nothing you can

do to reverse it at this point. If it is fine now just drive it. If it is acting up it should throw

a transmission code if something does go wrong. Any 2003 vehicle will throw a trans.

code if something is going wrong in the trans..

So if you are asking in advance it is not broke so just keep driving it until if ever the time

    something does happen.

You will get different opinions from different technicians. Best way to check is to look in your owners manual to see if they recommend a transmissions fluid replacement. For example, I drive a Toyota, and it recommends I replace the transmission fluid (at about 60-70k miles or so) only if I have been driving in harsh conditions, but I replaced it anyway and haven't had any problems. It's driving fine. I used to have older Saturn and I did a transmission flush on that one too and it's running fine without any problems.

If people are telling you different things, just try to see if the manufacturer has anything to say about it, they engineered the car.

If a transmission is this close to going out, a flush may speed up the process a little -- but it was going to go out anyway.

That said, the flush is usually not the preferred method for slushbox service, and some manufacturers (Honda, for instance) advise against it under any circumstances. The Jatco box in your Sentra has no such warnings. (And then you have oddballs like the Ford CD4E with a vertical pan: dropping it has exactly the result you're imagining.)

A flush can do lasting damage depends if they changed the transmission filter.

If they didn't then the thing they do is they force new transmission fluid into the transmission

through the filter and then they suck it all back out (again through the filter) so after the flush

they fill it up with fresh fluid but all the gunk actually didn't come out, all of it stayed in the filter.

The gunk is small metal particles that wear from the gears with time. (when they take the pan off

you should be able to see a magnet which pulls most of the particles to the bottom of the

    pan).

So unless they changed the filter you are going to be experiencing tranny problems.

When you drop the pan and change the fluid and filter, on a transmission, you only change a portion of the fluid. If you do a flush you force out all the old fluid remaining and replace it with new fluid. However if you don't change the filter a flush does more harm than good as it leaves all that crud in the filter and pan. You really should do both.

Avoid the flush. You do not know the history of the car. Its best to have the proper service

Which includes drain. Removal of the pan. New filter and gaskets and a refill.

A flush can cause wear debri to be forced into places that could cause damage.

Those idiots always claim it damages the transmission are full of $&@! Usually, people have problems with their transmissions and believe changing the transmission fluid magically cures all their problems! They have it changed and their messed up transmission fails, then they blame it on the fluid change.
