I'm pretty sure my hamster has mites, what remedies do you recommend?
I thought he was losing hair due to old age, but I noticed him scratching furiously and grooming a lot more than usual. He's also rolling around in the bedding to scratch himself. So I'm pretty sure he has mites.
What remedies do you recommend? Would using diluted tea tree oil as a topical treatment and spray to clean his cage get rid of the mites?

are you sure it is mites? if you have a pet like that you should always freeze the food because little bugs can hatch out of it what I did with my gerbil is I shaved him with a electric trimmer so it wouldn't cut him and rinsed him with water and used a little bit of mild baby shampoo and guinea pig flea soap on him then picked all the bugs off him I know that is possibly not the best or easiest way but it works and it is cheaper then going to the vet
