Wow that's messed up that Oregon actually had to illegalize tanning beds to get people to stop using them. Ha! Anyways, you'll fund a natural tan from the Sun looks and feels a lot better. All u do is go outside and lay down. Ya, it will take longer because you're not sitting under strong, concentrated blue bulbs of fake sun, but it's so much safer and did I mention, natural. Plus the sun gives you a nice dose of Vitamin D which always feels good. A Hawaiian Tropic with a low spf will do ya just fine. Have fun!

I actually recommend a little higher SPF. It'll burn less and tan more. Takes longer but you get more of a true tan, and you have to lay out for a long time. Like 2 hours front, 2 hours back. The sun still goes through SPF but most of the harmful rays get blocked out

Source(s): I have a friend who lays out for hours with 45 SPF and she's extremely dark.

Honestly? As a former tanner I strongly urge you to forget it. If you don't tan well in a tanning bed then you won't tan well in the sun. Your skin isn't very good at protecting itself, it doesn't want to tan, you don't have the genetics for it. If you keep trying to force it to tan all you'll do is keep adding more and more permanent damage that you'll likely regret later in life.

You say you know all about the bad effects but I don't think you do or you wouldn't be doing it. It's one thing to hear the words "skin cancer" and " premature aging" but another to actually go through it. It WILL happen and you WILL regret it. Take it from a former tanner who used to think like you.

Stop now, you're beating a dead horse and it just isn't worth it. Look after your skin. It's the largest organ in your body and once you've damaged it there's no way to reverse it.
