Question about Slovenian Citizenship?

My brother and I have been looking into getting EU citizenship in case we ever want to work there, and since our grandmother is from Slovenia, we figured that we may as well look into getting Slovenian citizenship.

However, I've found a lot of contradictory information on the internet. Some sources say that you can apply for citizenship up to being 4th generation outside of Slovenia. Others say that grandparent is too far gone.

One source said that if you are "'Slovenian origin'" up to the 4th generation, then you apply for citizenship without any residence requirements. However, I do not understand what it means by Slovenian origin. Does that mean of Slovene descent?

Also, and I'm not sure if it's relevant, but my family is not ethnically Slovene. My family's been in Slovenia for centuries, but we're ethnic Gottscheers/Germans.

Could someone please shed some light on the requirements for Slovenian citizenship? If you could link your sources, that would also be fantastic. Thanks for reading!

Update:

@John: Could you please list a source that says that?

Update 3:

@Paul: I had already seen the wikipedia link. What exactly does it mean by, "Slovenian Origin?" Of Slovene descent?

Your grandmother should have renewed her citizenship when Slovenia became independent. It's too late now. Even if she did, you wouldn't be eligible for a Slovenian citizenship.

You can obtain Slovenian citizenship through naturalisation, but you must live there for at least a year as far as I know.

If the applicant is a Slovene expatriate or his/her descendant to the fourth generation in direct descent or member of an indigenous Slovene national community outside the Republic of Slovenia claiming interest of the country due to national reasons, he/she does not have to fulfil the condition of uninterrupted residence in the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of the lawful status of an alien, condition of means of subsistence that enable material and social security and if they are not someone liable to tax in the Republic of Slovenia, they do not have to fulfil the condition of settling all tax obligations.

In the procedure, the applicant must demonstrate an active connection with the Republic of Slovenia or active multiannual activity in Slovenian associations, schools of Slovene language or Slovenian expatriate, emigrant or minority organisations, or that he/she was released from citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia due to understandable reasons and is re-applying for citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia. The applicant must also submit recommendations from appropriate organisations that confirm his active connection with the Republic of Slovenia along with his application.

The existence of national reasons for the naturalisation of Slovenians living outside Slovene borders is established by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of an opinion by the Government Directorate for Slovenians Abroad. The opinion on the fulfilment of criteria referred to in the first paragraph of this Article shall be expressed, if possible, by the competent diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Slovenia.

The basic condition for the introduction of the procedure for the acquisition of citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia shall be the completing of an application for obtaining citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia. The person shall verify that he/she has freely decided to obtain citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia with his/her signature on the application.

The application for the acquisition of citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia may be submitted at any administrative unit, Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia or diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Slovenia abroad.

If you parent/s are Slovakian then you can apply for citizenship................ no European country allows 4 th generation and only a few allow Grandparents to be used ..........simple as they would not be allowed to join the European Union, or every man and his dog would apply just to get into the EU...........
