What coul be this lump on my dog's thigh?

My dog (German Shepered/Border Collie mix, age 7) has a fairly hard lump on his left thigh. It has increase a bit in size over the past year (it's now the size of a dime) and has a black dot in the middle of it. He's also having trouble walking on that leg, favoring it and having trouble getting on and off chairs or stairs. What could this be?

You should take your dog to the vet and have him investigate this. Most likely he will do a fine needle biopsy (in the exam room), take a few cells from the lump and look under the microscope. If anything is suspicious he will probably send to the pathologist for analysis. Depending on what is found he may recommend removal. It is best that it is removed when small. Because it is hard and growing it is more of a concern than if it were soft and not growing.

    I hope everything is okay.

it could be a lot of things you should have a vet look at it as well as address the issue of your dog being in potential very likely pain. It maybe expensive to remove the lump and have it sent to pathology but my crystal ball is broken and most likely so your vets so it is best to rely on good science.

Not so harshly it sounds like your dog has arthritis on top of a potentially cancerous lump, or a torn ligament known as an ACL injury.
