  • Is it naive to be cynical?

If someone believes that everyone is bad and that no-one is trustworthy, isn't that just the mirror opposite of thinking everyone is good and trustworthy?

  • What's your opinion on smoking without inhaling?

I was discussing this with a friend (were both smokers and inhalers) and he was saying that smoking without inhaling and instead just holding it in your mouth is basically "pseudo-smoking" but I don't think I agree. What's your opinion?

  • "People are naturally selfish". What exactly does this statement mean?

I've heard this statement before but never fully understood what it means. Could someone please put this into a specific context? Also please don't describe your personal opinions on this theory, whether you agree or disagree and why, as I just want to understand what it means. Thanks in advance.

  • Why sould I be ashamed of being white?

I mean really, its silly. Europeans have a rich culture and history of philosophers, authors, musicians, scientists, artists etc. Da Vinci, Mozart, Beethoven, Plato, Aristotle, Dürer, Poe etc etc all were white. Now I'm not talking about looking at other races as "inferior" (which is also silly) but it seems that our oh so "perfectly PC" society isn't able to tell the difference. So why should I be ashamed of my race when all other races are encouraged to be proud of theirs?

  • Metal fans, what do you think of the idea of "reverse christian bands"?

Example; the members of black metal band Deathspell Omega are theistic satanists (they believe that Satan is living deity worthy of worship) and write about this heavily in their lyrics, seeing all other forms of Satan as "logically invalid". Now because they worship Satan in a literal context, they are also acknowledging the existence of the Judeo-Christian God. Because of this, they are seen by some as christian because they believe in Satan and therefor also the Judeo-Christian God. And that, despite the heavily blasphemous and satanic lyrical content, they are technically a christian metal band. What do you think of this label?

  • Agree or disagree; Multiculturalism and democracy don't work.?

I don't have a problem with other cultures, but the idea of multible social ideas and cultural norms living all together in one society seems to lead to some form of conflict. Take for example, two cultural groups are living in one society under one government. The two groups have no legal boundries preventing them from following their way of life, but the two might, on some level, see the other group as inferior, which will lead to tension. (I believe that man is a tribal being, so he will always be attracted and stick to the social groups that have ties with the individual. Whites with Whites, Blacks with Blacks, etc etc.) If this is not the case, society will try and intergrate the groups together, forcing each other to conform and change to a lesser or greater extent the rules, morals and norms of each other, the result of which, will lead to more tension. This sense of forced tolerance leads to racism, homophobia and general disgust and distrust with other groups and, sooner or later, they will begin to fight over who has dominate influence over society and government. The one government will also try and appease both groups at first, but they won't be able to function, as an act of some sort by the government that appeases one scoial group may/will enrage to other. This leads to the goverment also becoming bias, unable to both function and appease all cultural groups at the same time. Resulting in one group becoming dominant and all others to be supressed or disregarded

  • Is it justifiable to cut off a frined for having different opinions?

Let me explain; I don't mean cutting off a friend JUST because they have an opinion different from mine, I mean because they have an opinion that really rubs you the wrong way. Like something you almost take offense to.

  • Is it abnormal or strange that I feel this way?

I honest to god do not need other people to be happy. Socian contact I find stressful and exhausting while being alone is peaceful and enriching. I have a few contacts, but honestly, its hard to be involved in relationships because, as I said, I find them stressful. I *never* get lonely or depressed when I am by my self. I feel no need to be a relationship of any kind but I've been told by family that it is strange to like to be by your self and not have any need for social contact. Is this weird?

  • Can I join the military with asthma?

I'm 19 and currently considering joing the army but I've had asthma all my life. I have to take singulair once a day and also I have to take breathing treatments.

Although a bit unrelated, I might also mention that I had implants put into my feet when I was ten to correct flat feet. Would I be disqualified from joining the military?

  • HP Lovecraft fans, I'm a bit confused about the ending of "The Tomb".?

Ok I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I just got done reading HP Lovecraft's "The Tomb" and I wasn't too sure if I understood it and want to know if I understood it correctly because I'm a bit confused about the end. I came to the conclusion that Jervas is a reincarnatted soul of a member of the Hyde family, and when he was having the hallucination of the party in the Hyde manor and he was witnessing its destruction as well as his own death in the past life and that's why the two men find that painting in the ruins that looks like him as well as while Jervas is in the asylum and Hiram tells him about the empty coffin in the tomb with "Jervas" engraved on it, Am I correct because I wasn't too sure?

  • Agree or disagree; certain animal instincts are mistaken as ''evils''.?

Let's take lust for example. It's considered an evil sin, but sexual desire HAS to exist. If nobody wants to have sex, we'd all die out because nobody is having children. I can see it as foolish, obviously if I'm having sex all the time with anyone I want, I'm putting myself at risk for all kinds of diseases, but I cant see it as evil, unless the sexual attraction is towards children, corpses, pain etc. So are certain ''evils'' not really evil but just basic animal instincts?

  • Why am I so apathetic to myself?

In general, I really don't care about myself. I don't enjoy things or not enjoy them, I don't care about success or failure. I don't really care if I get married and have a prosperous life or end up sleeping on park benches. Makes me no nevermind, I honestly don't care. Or like when I got my GED. My family and friends were more happy than I was. I didn't care all that much. Just another day in the life. Same with college. Test comes up, I get an A, I am indifferent, if I fail, I still don't care. I don't get excited about upcoming events or dissapointed about things when they don't work out. Why am I like this?

  • What coul be this lump on my dog's thigh?

My dog (German Shepered/Border Collie mix, age 7) has a fairly hard lump on his left thigh. It has increase a bit in size over the past year (it's now the size of a dime) and has a black dot in the middle of it. He's also having trouble walking on that leg, favoring it and having trouble getting on and off chairs or stairs. What could this be?
