Metal fans, what do you think of the idea of "reverse christian bands"?

Example; the members of black metal band Deathspell Omega are theistic satanists (they believe that Satan is living deity worthy of worship) and write about this heavily in their lyrics, seeing all other forms of Satan as "logically invalid". Now because they worship Satan in a literal context, they are also acknowledging the existence of the Judeo-Christian God. Because of this, they are seen by some as christian because they believe in Satan and therefor also the Judeo-Christian God. And that, despite the heavily blasphemous and satanic lyrical content, they are technically a christian metal band. What do you think of this label?

Update:

Edit - I'm asking if its a silly idea. That just because they believe in God, they are automatically a christian.

No, tons of bands are made up of Christians or whatever but they aren't religious. I think Paramore are all Christians but they aren't a Christian band by any stretch of the imagination. There are many different forms of "God", believing in God doesn't necessarily make you a Christian, because different denominations of the faith have different beliefs you are expected to believe/follow.

I don't listen to Deathspell Omega, so I can't use anything to justify what I'm saying. I'm just saying, based off what I just read, they should be labeled a "religious band" instead of a "Christian band" because part of being a Christian is denying Satan and accepting Jesus, which it appears they don't...? They're satanists then, and Satanism is not a branch of Christianity, and it's quite stupid to believe it is. (Not saying you do, just people in general)

  • Wow, well that's a prime example of Christian "logic" (i.e. it's retarded). By their logic I can call every Christian a satanist because if they believe in God then they believe in Satan. Now imagine how bananas the Christians would get if we all called them Satanist? And if this band is being called Christian does that mean they get into heaven even if they are pro-Satan and anti-God? See... christian logic.

The term Christian Metal (or Rock, Rap, etc) implies that the band is pro-God. A better term would be Satanic Metal.

A band which believes in Satan still believes in the Christian mythos. Although technically, they could be buying into any of the major world religions which believe in a dualistic universe. Such a Statnist is more a Zoroastarian than a Christian.

They've just chosen to fall in love with Ringo.

I think it's a misleading label. "Theistic Satanist metal" would be more accurate, as the word "Christian" suggests the belief in and worship of Jesus Christ.

    * I understand the point you're making in that Satanists believe in God, but they don't *worship* God. The word "Christian" means FOLLOWERS of Christ. So yes, it is a silly idea to use the word "Christian" to describe someone that worships Satan.

Christians need both Jesus and Satan in their belief system.Satanists don't need Jesus.Satan was around long before he was.

Oh,and Satanic Metal is called Black Metal, which as described by Silenoz of Dimmu Borgir as simply "a Satanic way of playing heavy metal".

Satanists are elite atheists. If you mean people who believe in satan as a real being then yes those are just inverse christians

Satanists are not evil like people think, and they are elite atheists. All you need to know is in the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey who is the founder of Satanism. They love kids and animals and the law. They do not pray or plead they demand their WILL and command their desires from the forces of darkness. Also read "Satanic Rites and Ceremony's" by Rev. Yaj Nomolos and visit the forum at modernchurchofsatan or the FirstSatanicChurch.com sites

Quote from famous musician, High ranking Church of Satan member and very close friend to Anton LaVey - King Diamond "Satanism is about the Powers of the Unknown. I have had hundreds of strange supernatural experiences with the occult, the other side, the beyond, whatever you want to call it that proves there is a spiritual world that can cross over into our world. Satanism is a life philosophy so within it you can have your own religion, any religion you want, within the Satanic Philosophy you can even be a Christian. And Satan on a spiritual mystical level stands for the Powers of Darkness, the Powers of the Unknown which are always all around us at all times. This is the best way to talk about these Spirits and Powers.

Some people like to call "Them" God or the Devil or whatever, but I do not believe there is all one good power and one all bad power. I believe there are many, many different Spirits and Powers that exist and that they are not good or evil, like humans they have both inside of them and I always treat them with the highest amount of respect and feel that respect returned by Them. I believe we are one and the same me and these Unknown Forces. I believe they come to those who they feel can handle it and who will be faithful believers." In the song "Welcome Princess of Hell" you hear me singing to these spirits and powers and they sing back to me. They came to me to let me know they are here for me on my journey and that they are behind me and that they wish me good luck! We all live several lives so that our souls can grow in order to reach a higher plane. 99 percent of the population live by the Satanic Philosophy whether they know it or not. As Anton LaVey even told me that Satanism is simply a life philosophy and NOT a religion. People who see Satanism from the Christian view point are not treating these powers with respect and that is very dangerous.

LaVey felt and I agree that we are all individuals born with different needs and views and so he felt everyone should make up their own mind about what to believe in spiritually if anything at all which is why he left a huge void in the Satanic Bible when it came to spirituality or any kind of religious beliefs and so within the Satanic Philosophy a person can still be a Christian if that fulfills their spiritual needs.

LaVey Church of Satan Rev. Thomas Thorn - " There is a spiritual dimension that communicates with us and there are powers and deities in this spiritual world. We use Satanic Rituals to summon, communicate with and make pacts with Demons that are real beings as well as other spirits"

Church of Satan member Joe Netherworld recently called Americas Favorite Satanist has a site talking about how he uses his ability to communicate with the spirit world to help solve cases and give accurate info to people during divination's that he does

This is why the Books The Satanic Bible and the Satanic Rituals by Anton LaVey stress to treat these entities with respect as friends and companions and to be in league with these Powers and not use protective circles and pentagrams which insult these forces. Anton LaVey spent his life researching the occult, magic and the supernatural and was a ghost hunter. He said he created a glowing pentagram to attract these forces and did essays on the trapezoid which opens gateways to supernatural forces. As Anton LaVey himself said in books and video interviews he tried calling up spirits and demons using circles and names of God and Jesus for protection and it did not work so he knew he needed to then be on the side of the demons instead of using protection in order to call up Demons and gain magical powers and have things go his way. LaVey also said how Satanists thrive in the darkness surrounded by the Dark ones and the Infernal spirits.

Church of Satan video documentary "Satanis" many Satanic Church members were asked if they believe in a God or Powers and they said "Yes they do"

Satanic Priest Peter Gilmore - "Everyone behaves in a Satanic fashion and it is high time people recognize that. And we leave it up to each Satanist to decide if they believe in an after life or not"

Mmmm, no. I would not consider a band that considers Satan a living deity worthy of worship a "Christian" band just because they acknowledge the existence of the Judeo-Christian God.
