Why are the Pixies considered Indie and Hipster Music?
The Pixies are the premier alternative band of the 80s and its great to see young kids like them too. However, these kids stupidly label the Pixies as an 'indie' or 'hipster band'. Whats up with that? The Pixies have no right to be associated with those mostly wannabe bands that try to be a tenth as good as the Pixies were.

Because they sound a great deal like what kids nowadays call "indie" or "hipster" music.
They call it hipster music because the Pixies are a band that most of their friends have never heard of.
They call it "indie" because that label is slapped on any band that plays what we used to call alternative. Most people have no idea that the term indie originated from bands that were either signed to independent record labels or not at all. They just heard a band called that and thought that was the name of the type of music they played.
In case you hadn't noticed, a lot of people are really dumb when it comes to categorizing music.

Because they are the Indie Band of choice for people who don't really listen to Indie Music. I'd personally put REM, The Replacements and Husker Du way above The Pixies in the greatest 80's bands.
