As you may have guessed, I am a huge fan of Rush. I also love 70s hard rock, Progressive Rock (fave genre) and Power Metal.

  • How popular is older anime from the 70s-90s with younger fans?

Every anime fan might check out Cowboy Beebop, Akira, Studio Ghibli films or DBZ etc. just for their 'classic' status. But how many people under the age of 22 watch and enjoy anime from the 70s-90s?

Which anime have 'manly' men as protaganists?

Basically, when an anime has a male protag, over 90% of these will have that guy be a super skinny teenage dude or in the worst case scenario; look like a girl!

What happened to the traditional macho man?

Can someone list a bunch of anime male protaganists who look manly? (I'm talking body proportion wise. I know there are plenty of anime teens who have done things no real life man could ever hope to do)

You know, guys like Batou, Kenshiro, Bean Bandit or even Goku. People with muscular physiques that are obviously masculine.

OVA characters are fine by the way.

  • Western Adult Animations?

I don't mean the comedy animations you'd find on adult swim or Fox (although South Park is hilarious) nor am I in the mood for anything based off American comics. I want violent and gritty, scifi/fantasy films/series and the older and the less CGI used, the better.

I'm already aware of Ralph Bakshi's work and Heavy Metal and as far as I'm concerned, thats the best that purely adult western animation can get.

  • Cold War tank question?

Why do does the American M60 have similar weight (around 50 tons) compared to the Russian T10 heavy tank?

I know Russian tanks were lighter than American tanks in general but the T10 has heavier armour than the M60, where does all the M60s weight come from? Its fire control systems?

The same thing applies to the British Cheiftain which is heavier than both aforementioned tanks.

  • Is progressive rock classic rock or is it so much more?

Progressive rock had its hey day during the classic rock period (The 70s) and many progressive rock bands are deeply ingrained into classic rock history: e.g. Rush, Pink Floyd (definately), early Queen and Genesis (but mostly for their pop rock stuff).

Does that make progressive rock classic rock?

Or is progressive rock on an entirely different level to standard classic rock? Does it deserve its own category in recognition of all that was acheived via the supreme creativity and drug usage of talented musical giants? (I dont see Aerosmith or Bad Company even coming close to how good Yes was).

  • What sort of pop music do people with sophisticated tastes like, if at all?

By sophisticated tastes, I mean anyone who does not just listen to mainstream music; and also has a solid understanding of the non mainstream music they like (e.g. not have a song just because of its cool factor or because it appeared on your favorite show/game).

So what sort of pop do these people like? Do they like mainstream pop, retro pop, art pop or no pop at all?

And do they substitute their need for pop music with another genre such as ambient music, electronic, post rock, jazz, indie, pop metal, British Invasion, psychadellic rock, neo progressive, punk, reggae etc.

  • What do you look for in your music?

BQ: Are you a sucker for extreme sophistication/experimentation/genre blending/heavy layered music?

As a prog rock fan, my ears really get off to this.

BQ2: How important are lyrics to your music?

I personally dont care though lyrics about warfare, politics, sci fi and simply wtf are awesome.

BQ3: How important are vocals to your music?

Very important to me but I consider it another instrument. Bonus for traditional heavy metal vocals.

    BQ4: Instrumentals; yay or nay?

As a jazz lover, yes. For me vocals can be distracting for certain styles or if they are too inferior to the instrumentation.

    BQ5: Fave genre?

  • Whats the line between being open to music and randomly liking everything you hear?

Ive noticed two extremes; the close minded who listens to a handful of genres only (mainstream music fans, elitist death metallists) or the people who decide they must like every music and song they know.

Where is the fine line between liking too less and liking too much?

  • What are some of the most awesome metal album covers ever?

I want to make a metal music slide show so list some kickass metal album covers.

Any metal, including hard rock and glam metal if you really want. Any subject from huge breasted women to c-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate to muscular battle axe wielding barbarians.

BQ: Fave ever album cover? (One metal and anything else if you want?)

  • How big is the metal scene in Japan? What is it like nowdays?

I am a huge fan of classic Japanese metal. For all intents and purposes, I've heard that classic Japanese metal was obscure, even during their time and that modern Japanese metal is either a mirror of US glam rock or power metal esque arrangements.

Can someone tell me about the history of Japan's metal music, how popular it is and some signature bands?

I know: Flower Travellin Band, Magnesium, Sabbat, Gorgon, X Japan, Volcano, Loudness, Outrage, Sigh, Demetori, Xion, Iron Chino

  • Why are the Pixies considered Indie and Hipster Music?

The Pixies are the premier alternative band of the 80s and its great to see young kids like them too. However, these kids stupidly label the Pixies as an 'indie' or 'hipster band'. Whats up with that? The Pixies have no right to be associated with those mostly wannabe bands that try to be a tenth as good as the Pixies were.
