What do you look for in your music?
BQ: Are you a sucker for extreme sophistication/experimentation/genre blending/heavy layered music?
As a prog rock fan, my ears really get off to this.
BQ2: How important are lyrics to your music?
I personally dont care though lyrics about warfare, politics, sci fi and simply wtf are awesome.
BQ3: How important are vocals to your music?
Very important to me but I consider it another instrument. Bonus for traditional heavy metal vocals.
BQ4: Instrumentals; yay or nay?
As a jazz lover, yes. For me vocals can be distracting for certain styles or if they are too inferior to the instrumentation.
BQ5: Fave genre?

I get tired of things very easily and I find almost everything quite boring. So "different, interesting and unique" is something that I usually look for in every genre. I'm usually drawn to experimental side of every genre and fusion genres. For example, I like Avant-Prog but I don’t like most Progressive music.
BQ: Are you a sucker for extreme sophistication/experimentation/genre blending/heavy layered music?
- I crave for experimentation in music (it's what I like 99% of the time) but it doesn't necessarily have to sound highly complex or heavy. It usually depends on the genre and/or the atmosphere that a particular song is supposed to create. When I listen to experimental minimalism music, I love that it sounds quite mellow and simple even though it is more complex than many other genres.
BQ2: How important are lyrics to your music?
- Very little although I appreciate poetic lyrics if it comes my way but I don’t look for music for the sole purpose of finding beautiful lyrics. Lyrics can be an integral part of what makes music good in some genres or some songs but it is not mandatory for me. I love ambient music and I can connect to it even with its lack of vocals and lyrics.
BQ3: How important are vocals to your music?
- Again very little but it matters a bit more than lyrics. Some vocals are not very easy to get into. I'm not talking about harsh vocals. I'm fine with it. I don't like male vocalists with really high voice but there are a few exceptions
BQ4: Instrumentals; yay or nay?
Yay. I'm on ambient kick.
BQ5: Fave genre?
Currently - Experimental, Ambient, Field Recordings. Drone, Electroacoustic, Folk, Dark Jazz and underground Hip-Hop.
All time - Experimental, Black Metal, Ambient, Noise, Drone, Shoegaze and Post-Rock/Metal.

I'll listen to almost anything if it's catchy enough. If you give me something with a good groove/drum beat that I can dance to, I'll probably like it, at least, the music part of it. Lyrics are another thing entirely.
BQ1: Yeah, I guess, if I'm in the mood for it.
BQ2: I can't tell you how many songs I like musically but who's lyrics make me cringe. I'll usually look up the meaning of a song when I first find it just to see what I'm dealing with. I'm a fan of metaphors, imagery and sarcasm in music, too.
BQ3: The music might be great, but if the voice isn't, I'm gone.
BQ4: Depends on the genre and my mood.
BQ5: Like I said, I'll listen to almost anything, but currently my top 2 are Indie Rock and EDM.

1. Genre blending is amazing if done well and the genres are quite similar! The song has to be different and unique
2. Lyrics are the most important thing! If the lyrics are deep andeaningful then, I will probably love it! I can't stand songs about wanting this guy or getting pissed! :/
3. Really important
4. Yeah instruments! Especially guitars, basses and drums!
5. Screamo/ metal/ emo/ rock with some alternative and indie songs

Beautiful and meaningful lyrics, harmony, tonality, smooth transitions, chord progressions that make sense. I'm also a big fan of baroque/classical, so my ears are tuned to that kind of precision. In other words, it's gotta make sense.
BQ: I'm open to hearing it. If it's done well, it can be really good.
BQ2: It's important to me (in modern music).
BQ3: Very important. It's gotta all come together to complete the sound. If one element is off, it's all off.
BQ4: Absolutely important
BQ5: Believe it or not, the soft rock of the 70s. But I like a lot of other stuff, too: Progressive, classic rock, 60s garage band; etc.
..... Good question, man.

BQ: Yes, very much so.
BQ2: I don't care really, but I gravitate towards subjects I find of interest (sci fi, lord of the rings, warfare, history, ect).
BQ3: Very important. If I hate the singing, then the music won't do anything for me, no matter how good it is.
BQ4: Depends on the instrumental. I really like prog, jazzy, and ambient stuff for instrumentals.
BQ5: I honestly don't know. I several big ones and several smaller ones.
Big:
Metal (most subgenres)
Grindcore
Folk Rock
EBM
Ambient (Senmuth and Karl Sanders specifically)
Crust Punk
Smaller:
Space Rock
Prog Rock
Dark Electro
Darkwave

Well i've been a Dylan nut for 45 years. And it's everything.Listen to Dylan's "Man in the Long Black" and every thing in that song is built on and depends on the other. This song almost makes you feel the atmosphere, which was it's intent.Of course Bob is old and gravelly. But just recently there was a Scorsese birthday tribute. The birthday boy asked for Dylan to perform. He agreed and was told to play man in the long black coat.I think there is a video on line.Anyway Dylan stretches and wrings every drop out of a word, but does so leaning on the music, yet seeming to be one at times.I see a lot of real good bands. Some on T.V. some live. And their real good. But there is another dimension that few can reach. Some are just possessed.Others great craftsman. But for me good is not good enough.I.m looking for that depth, where words, voice and music become seamless.Like an aroma.Good luck.
Source(s): P.S.He's still evoling, but I think Jack Black has something special. On his current path I see him with a lot of staying power.
