Does the mailman have a right to demand me to clean up my dogs poop so he can walk across MY yard?

He walks up a cement path to my porch, puts my mail in my box, then instead of using the path to leave he walks off the side of the porch, over my plants and across my yard.

Update:

Gosh People Get a grip. This is one dog poo done by a dog on two feet of snow after 2 weeks without it melting. The dogs got to go somewhere. Mail man had worn a solid path in the snow and the poop was at least two foot away near a bush. I think he just did not want to see it. I'm not sure why but he took about 5 minutes of his precious time to show it to me and ask me to pick it up. And btw he had already delivered my mail and came across the street from another block to speak with me when I pulled into my driveway. So much for the saving time theory. He would take about 2 seconds to walk half a degree further away from the bush,

theory.

Update 2:

I would appreciate any sensible comments or information regarding this issue. To those of you who assume you know the conditions of my "disgusting" yard either 1 come visit, or 2 come walk through two feet of snow and pick up a poop or 3 keep your insults yourselves. I asked for an answer not a personal judgement.

If he walks over your grass when he doesn't need to then you do have a right to complain, however, to do what you do which is put FLAGS in each of the poops and not clean them up which you have told us you refuse to do, is just damned well disgusting and I think he has a right to refuse to go anywhere near your filthy garden.

And why bother asking again when you just choose the answer that you want to hear.

Years ago, there was a corner lot where the owners NEVER cleaned up after their dog. When it got bad enough, we refused to deliver mail until it WAS cleaned up. We called it The House at Poo Corner.

I've already answered you about USPS' right to cross lawns and your right to request in writing that they do not, and their added right to require you to move your box if being denied the shortcut adds time to the route.

Source(s): Letter carrier 34 years. Be thankful you still have home delivery. Some people in Congress want you to walk to the end of your street to get your mail from some giant concrete and metal monster.

Why should someone HAVE to complain about it? That's disgusting. Pick up your dog's poop and there won't be any problems. When I lived in a large town my mailman used to walk through my yard, so what? It's grass. Pick up the dog's poop.

No. Unless you live under an HOA nobody can tell you to pick it up.

However.... You may want to have a good relationship with the person responsible for bringing your mail....So telling him to piss off may not he advised.

I would be surprised if he had the right to tell you that. His right to your yard is the given right, which normally is a sidewalk. That is the only right of way that he has any say over.

Even if he uses the sidewalk, the smell alone would be a cause for complaint. There are pooper-scooper businesses that will do the job economically for the busy and handicapped.

No, but I would not p.o. the mailman… I give ours a gift at x-mas:)o. Your mail could get lost…. Not a good thing.

He can call the health dept and complain about the unsanitary conditions on your lawn, they will MAKE you clean it up. Although I don't understand why someone would want that left on the lawns in the firstplace.
